Spilled water on laptop :(

Last Sunday I spilled a bit of water on my laptop, after a few second it started making a strange noise and stopped working. I switched it off, put it upside down and let it dry through the night.
The following morning I took it to a PC Repair shop and after dissembling it they advised to cover it with rice and let it dry for a few days (note: hard drive is ok).
I did so, then I put it back together this morning (4 days later) but it's dead (battery is fully charged). I took it to the PC Repair shop again and they said there is nothing that can be done.

Before I go and buy a new laptop, is there anything else I can do? Is there any PC Repair shop that can check this further and maybe identify what is not working exactly and just replace that part, or even better to a full cleaning/drying?

    Thank you for your help.

Once a laptop is powered on while wet it will short circuit making it almost irreparable. As the laptop was on at the start and then stop working from that point it was never fixable. If you get a laptop wet when it is not turned on you can take out the battery and leave it to dry in the hotpress for at least 10 days and it should be fine after that.

If you even try to turn a wet laptop on it is then instantly irreparable. Once the short circuit happens it's dead.

It can be fixed but it will cost 50% of the price of the laptop + labour as the motherboard (all the circuits inside) need to be replaced.

    Hi,
I took it this morning to PC World and they advise that it could be the motherboard or even just a chip that needs to be replaced, it would cost 65€ to send it to their UK centre and find out. Would you know if there is some other place in Dublin where they can run it through this check for a cheaper price and identify whether it is a problem with the motherboard or something smaller? I already ordered a new laptop, but if I can this back working and can still use it as backup PC or give it away to a friend.

    Thank you.

Might as well put my query here,

Spilled some tea on laptop, after a few days of problems I left it alone to dry for a day and on switching it on find that it is working as normal except for a small number of keys on keyboard

is there any chance I can get them working again or is this a repair job

I had self trust issues too but I felt worse about forking out a fortune to PC World. I found a youtube video showing how to open it and remove the old kb. Job done in 15 mins. Perhaps you know someone who is a bit technical who can help?

If PCWorld decide that it is fixable will they charge you just €65? Unlikely. More likely to cost €65 + Parts + Labour + Vat + Shipping.

If it's a 2k laptop, it might be worth it but if it cost €299 i wouldn't waste €65.

    Good Luck.
