Is it just from one LBS you are buying any options for other brands?

I'd go for the cycleops of those two. From what I've read it's quieter and more durable. I wouldn't worry to much about the warranty it's meant to be lifetime and they don't fail. I had the loan of my brothers one for a few years while he was travelling and I liked it. Only really used it properly this winter but I found it very good quite, sturdy and as much resistance as I'll ever need.

Was going to buy one myself but I managed to get a Kurt Kinetic instead for €280 and I glad I did it's just that little better. Easier set up feels sturdier and just feels that bit better made. Plus for me as I use Trainer road the power does not vary as the unit heats up unlike the cycleops. That is only an issue though with for trainerroad.

I'd be perfectly happy with the cycleops especially as it is about €60 cheaper than the best price I can find for the road machine now. I be tempted though to spend the bit extra especially if you use trainerroad.(If you don't I'd highly recommend it)

Thanks for the comments Ryath. Very helpful.
Buying it on the BTW scheme and committed to a particular LBS which has Elite, Tacx and Cycleops. I think the LBS concerns about the warranty were more about the particular supplier/distributor of Cycleops in Ireland than anything else. Curious to know if you have tried the Tacx at any stage?

Which is against the BTW rules - there's a separate BTW megathread which goes into the rules (linked from the FAQs), but discussion of tax evasion is not permitted anywhere on Boards

    Thanks
