Is it possible to get the BIC/IBAN or MSC/Bank Account NO and reference from a direct debit.

I would like to cancel a utility bill direct debit but add the bank account details to my online banking and pay the bill manually.

The company, Energia, won't provide the account details as they say direct debit or a once off payment on their site is the only way to pay.

It is not possible to get account information from a direct debit.

There are many ways a supplier could receive payments, for example Direct Debit, Credit Card, Debit Card, Standing Order, Bank Draft, Postal Order, Cash, Payzone, Paypoint, Post Office, Cheque, Paypal, EFT Etc.

It would be in their best interest to accept as many ways as possible, however every method they accept requires additional work on their part, as procedures, staff and software have to be allocated to each method. So any supplier can choose which payment methods they are willing to accept.

Usually the acceptable methods are listed somewhere on their bill. If they do not offer an EFT method then having the BIC and IBAN won't help you as they will refuse to accept your payment anyway.

With AIB internet banking when you go into view DD, you can see the sort code and account number and your customer account number should be in the ref field.

If a supplier does not set up a path for you to pay directly to a bank account, you should not try to do it. Their accounting system is probably not geared to pick up the transaction and link it to your account.
