Taxing a car I just bought with arrears?

Bought a car about a week ago and it went straight into the garage to get some engine work done, should hopefully be ready for the road this weekend.

The tax is out since the end of January I think - how do I go about taxing it now? Do I have to pay the arrears that are on it?

No. You're only liable from the start of the month you bought it in.

Great :) do I have to fill out a particular form and state when I bought it or will the motor tax online database know that it has a new owner and charge accordingly?

    You fill in RF100A form.
In there you put this period as "previous owner period"/
