Hi. I have social anxiety and I'm just off medication I was on for a year and a half as they weren't really working. I did counselling with the HSE for 8 weeks during this time and I found it helpful although I didn't speak about everything I should have and it was a bit short.
I want to do counselling again as my social anxiety has gone nowhere and I have a place picked out due to affordability. This place has a list of their counsellors available with what they offer and a short describtion of their methods. I'm just confused as to which would suit a person in my situation the best.
They have counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and counselling psychologists. I just don't know the real differences between them. I want to do CBT so I can rule out the people that don't offer that but there's at least 1 person from every area I listed who does offer CBT, I don't know which one to choose.

Personally, I would choose a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, for CBT

Thanks, I've booked an appointment with a Counselling Psychologist just there so it's time to worry about how it will go. :D

PLEASE read the 'find a therapist' sticky. You'll find the advice about finding a good CBT therapist is different there, dar100, because CBT is only a minor area in Counselling Psychology, ditto Clinical, so if you want a specialist in CBT there are other criteria to use.

That's not to say that a CBT therapist might also be a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist; but the CBT qualification is a separate on that comes after a professional qualification.

There are waaaay too many counsellors/therapists/psychologists etc around claiming to do CBT after minimal training or even none at all.

    They weren't helping my anxiety.

Well you build up tolerance to the anxiety ones like xanax. But there are other medications like the usual anti depressants and anti psychotic drugs that can treat anxiety

We do not diagnose and we do not prescribe on the internet. Take this as a warning. JC
