Getting from D8 area to Dublin airport for 6.25 flight?

I am thinking of staying overnight in D8 before a 6.25 Ryanair flight to the UK.

In terms of getting to the airport, I see that the first 747 Airlink bus leaves Heuston at 5.00am

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Timetables/All-Timetables/7471/

I would have a 2km walk from SCR to the station.

My question is will that first 747 bus get me to the airport in time?

    The website says:

"From 15:00hrs - 19:00hrs it can take up to 55 minutes to travel from O’Connell St. to Dublin Airport. "

I guess it would take 30 mins max at 5am???

    Is that reasonable??

I suppose I would have to be at the gate at 6am at the latest??

Overall, is it a bit tight..............??

That is far too tight. That is the busiest time of the day at the airport, and as such security queues are longest.

I would suggest that you should aim to be there 90 minutes ahead of the flight - which would be at about 05:00, and your best option is Aircoach from Westmoreland Street.

The 05:00 747 would be far too tight.

Southside cabs do fixed fare taxis from D8 to the airport for €20.

The 747 route from Heuston to airport Terminal 1 is somewhat circuitous and with occasional prolonged dwell time at Bus Áras. I'd say it'll take closer to an hour than 30 minutes, even at 5am. Airport security will also be busy at that hour, so I think that would be cutting it too tight for a 6.25 flight.

    Thanks everybody.

Fair enough, change of plans required.

The Transport for Ireland app has the 05:00 747 arriving at 05:33, which sounds about right. I did the route one Sunday evening and it took 35 mins in light traffic.

Remember most airlines close their gates 20 minutes before departure.

A €20 taxi door to door sounds the business to me.

Aircoach run their buses throughout the night from Dublin City Centre to the airport.

They pick up at Trinity College/Westmoreland St and at O'Connell St on the opposite side of the street to the Gresham Hotel

    http://www.aircoach.ie/sites/default/files/dac/Dublin%20Map%20leaflet.pdf

they go every 30 minutes between midnight and 4.30am and then every 15 minutes until midnight

(I think the last Dublin Bus from Bus Aras to the airport is 11.30pm)

What time do you have to be at the airport according to the airline?

In all likelihood OP will probably need a taxi to get into the Aircoach. If they can get a €20-€22 fixed fare from the front door it will be less hassle for the extra few €.

You are correct, a taxi would be less hassle, but I was thinking, from Dublin 8, perhaps it would be a good bit more than 22 euros?

I note the reference above by AngryLips, regarding the company mentioned doing the fare for €20, but I'm curious what other taxi companies would charge from the Dublin 8 area to the airport.

There's a sign at the taxi rank on Eden Quay for a 20 euro fare to the airport, and I think the taxis at the rank at Bus Aras will go to the airport for 20 also.

One night I was waiting at the Aircoach bus stop opposite the Gresham Hotel for one of their buses to the airport, which is €7.

A taxi driver stopped and offered me and three others, a fare to the airport for €6 each.

I'm guessing, because that was from O'Connell St, that from Dublin 8, to get a taxi to the airport, it might be an additional €8 or €9 on the fare, in addition to the €20 euros?

(It'd be near enough 8 euros in a taxi from Thomas St to the Lower Abbey St - Beresford Place area.)

I just thought to include the link to the aircoach timetable because the OP made reference to the Dublin Bus service starting at 5am, and because of that I wasn't sure if they were aware or not, that aircoach operate throughout the night, whereas the Dublin Bus 747 ends at 11.30pm.

Someone asked there about the airline boarding time prior to take off. I'm an awful chancer at last minute boarding of Ryanair flights, so I can honestly tell you that you can bet on them having that plane boarded 30 mins prior to take off, and you need to make a time allowance for security and the walk to the gate.

So - if your flight's at 0630, I would honestly try to be walking into the terminal building around 0530. I assume you only have hand luggage of course.

Never going to happen since they are competing with each other.

    This is what Ryanair say:

    http://www.ryanair.ie/en/questions/what-time-does-the-boarding-gate-close-at/

"You should be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Boarding closes 20 minutes prior to departure. Your valid travel document and boarding pass must be produced at the boarding gate."

So, yes, I agree, 5.30am walking in door of terminal, no hanging around, straight to security, 6am at gate.

    Too risky, though.

    I won't do it.

I live close to the VIP and SCR cab bases; they offer local fares at €22-€23 so it's not far off the €20 of the city ranks.

Edit. VIP charge €21 from Cork Street and €23 from Crumlin to the airport.

I wasn't suggesting that both companies would co-operate.

I mentioned the aircoach service because they run throughout the night to the airport from the city centre.

I mentioned this with regard to the OP stating they needed to be at the airport for a flight at 6.25am, and they were concerned that they might not be there in time, if they travelled on the first Dublin Bus which is at 5am.

Oddly enough, I'll be doing a virtually identical trip to OP's tomorrow only my flight is at 06:45. In my case it's either drive or taxi it to the airport as again, the bus connections just don't suit me on this occasion.
