    F**kin scumbags.

If I get a chance to get out of the office today, I'll have a quick drive around places it may be hiding. Not too far from Stepaside, and this is the sort of area the scumbags would use to hide stolen stuff.

Did you only buy this recently?

I've it for owned for around 14months.

Many years ago, I heard of cars being parked up around the Sandyford Industrial estate. Given the dealerships etc, no one would give much of a look in to a car sitting around. Might be worth having a swing round there perhaps early morning or late evening when its quiet.

Ah sh1t Sean, sorry to see this. Will keep an eye out down south.

Shared on facebook too. There's also a stolen cars ireland page that would be worth a shot.

Might be worth a post on http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/ too.

Had a quick drive around a couple of industrial estates - in to the quieter parts where I'd be trying to hide a car if I had to.

No sign of any Black E90's that looked out of place.

Will keep an eye out though.

    That's horrible to hear :(

I'll be keeping an eye out and hopefully like Georges car it will be returned safe and sound

That 330i will be most likely used for a job :( Sorry to hear that.

How did it get stolen? The scumbags took the keys?

    No still have the keys.
There was no glass on the ground so genuinely at a loss!

Yeah to think it may turn up after being used to inflict pain on somebody else is a worry.

Considering the keys weren't taken I'm guessing coded in a new blank key through the diag, its well documented

    Sorry for your hassle.

There have been a couple of recent incidents in my neck of the woods (Leixlip and Clonsilla) where specifically Beemers have been targeted and lifted away by heavy tow trucks from places like commuter rail stations and car parks.

The modus operandi is a white van crew in high-viz cruise the locations, spot a good mark and ring in the tow vehicle, no key or window smashing necessary, and as has been mentioned they are stored in yards or underground till the heat dies down then broken up for spares - a well maintained car will be worth twice its road going value as spare parts.

On a decent car like these a tracking device with an independent battery is a must.

Jeez, sorry to hear that man! Hope you get it back soon.

    Ok well timeline is,
thanks to grainy CCTV footage, left the estate at 3:12am.
He got lost leaving the estate and took him 2 mins to leave.

Only other car came in 3:07 and left with him.
Seems like it took they a couple of mins to get into and sorted in the car!!

I agree with the logic of fitting a tracker - they work a treat in the Uk because police cars can pick up tracker signals.

    BUT

How do they work over here??? - do you have to get tracking the car yourself via your computer

Hope the little toads that took the car get caught asap :mad::mad:

A friend was telling me the other day about a lads bike that got robbed.
He had a tracking device fitted.
The bike was in Lithuania within 48 hours.

I use GPS trackers that are communicated with via mobile networks, you just call the tracker same as you call any other phone and they send back a Google maps link and GPS location via SMS.

OP really sorry to hear about the theft, I've watching out on the road around Dublin 15.

I wonder where they're getting new blank keys from. I know existing keys can't be recoded to new cars, at least with mine anyways. As you say, they'd have to be brand new, unpaired keys.

Aliexpress I'd say or the like:

    One example:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/XHORSE-BM3-5-Key-for-BMW-3-5-Series-315MHZ-Free-Shipping/1466086597.html

I got a blank toyota key there and was able to pair it with my car no issues (although you need the master key to do this on mine)

no use if its driven to an underground car park - you'd need to track in realtime to a server on the net to avoid this

All I'll say it was quick.

And clever, I'm assuming the car was taken as it's a four door as there are a few equal/more powerful coupes in the area.

Apparently there have being a number of cars disappearing in our area of the last couple of months.

    Pricks end of!
I didn't sleep a wink last night as the thoughts we have being watched freaked me out too much.
I've a couple of nice material things in my life the car was one and to think me and it had being watched that my movements where known!!

That 3am is the perfect time to get the car as I'll always be home by 3am!!
Come later I could be gone to work come earlier I may not be home from work yet!

Bastards  - will keep an eye out for it - did you check if its been on the M50 (with eflow) ?

Bastards. Sound like a more professional outfit, though not knowing the way out of your estate shows the level of brains involved even among so called pros.

I'll keep an eye out. It's a distinctive looking car so hopefully somebody spots it.

Yep and apparently it's not just BMWs(though some BMW's have a blind spot in the interior ultrasonic sensor so are easier). When BMW UK finally admitted the problem, they also claimed other marques can be equally targeted. I personally know of a family where their Audi was stolen by the scum without the keys.

There's apparently a firmware update for the BMW security system, so if any of ye have one I'd be going to your dealer pronto to make sure it has it. I'd still have a secondary security level though. Quality third party alarm immoboliser kinda thing.

It was alarmed and immobilised! Which worked off the key.
The fact no window was broken has me convinced the pricks had a key!

The alarm system was being put off being upgraded due to other personal circumstances needing money and attention.

Or put in a shipping container. Also, any higher end thief will have access to a jammer. Ideally you need two completely independent trackers and an RF tracker.

That idea with the eflow is a good one, but if they are that smart to get into the car without breaking anything then I think they'd know not to use the motorway which has cctv everywhere.
Maybe give a call to the port authority and ask if they have had any black beemers come through? Just thinking aloud. Rosslare would be too far a stretch I'd say to bring a stolen car and NI would be also too risky.
Have the insurance company said anything?

Exactly C, that's the issue with these, it is only one layer of security. Defeat that and they're away scot free.

They don't need a key to start the process. The BMW particular vulnerability* is down to the internal ultrasonic sensors having a blindspot at the drivers window(OEM ultrasonics are also set to low sensitivity to avoid false alarms). They can either smash the glass, or the better at it can use various means to force the window down. The alarm should go off, but doesn't. Then they reach in, access the cars data port, plug that into a scanner with a blank key and clone it. Then they just disable the whole system as it now thinks it's you. Takes about ten minutes apparently. The joke is at the time BMW's own key cloning kit took nearly an hour... I've obviously left out some steps but that's the gist of it.

A shedload of Beemers in the UK were swiped in this manner a couple of years back. The only ones who weren't taken were ones where the owners had a second layer of security, either a secondary alarm with immobiliser and with better sensors or a separate immobiliser. A couple of security companies jumped at this opportunity and installed alarms systems that would immobilise the data port when the alarm was armed. So even if Johnny Scum could access it, the secondary alarm would sense the window movement and be going apeshít and the data port would be rendered useless to cloning.

The UK guys and gals also complained(big thread on Pistonheads at the time and on a few US Beemer forums too) that even when BMW admitted the fault(and took their sweet time) they didn't inform current owners of a firmware update. I think that changed, though it seems not here? Which would be all too typical.

Personally? If I had a BMW(or any nickable car) I'd never rely entirely on the factory security, or just one layer. When OEM security is "hacked" by scum it makes it an easy and repeatable process. I read of a stat concerning car theft in London and something like a third of all cars stolen were stolen without the original keys being taken. Maybe some were older cars, maybe some were towed, but I'll bet the farm that pro scum can nick a few car models by bypassing the OEM security.

PS this affects pre 2011 BMWs

    link with video http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mg74/features/bmw-car-theft-technology

Video of the scum actually doing it.

*other similar systems may also be vulnerable to cloning, but opening the window would likely set them off, so the Beemer was/is the preferred choice of the scum.

Apology, as you mention people know your movement, when you home etc, on net now mention nice material things, scum might be thinking to tell their associates might be worth looking in there for nice watches, laptops etc.
