I work abroad right now and don't have a car here. Last September after a year of cycling sh1tty and dangerous bikes, I decided to buy myself a new and safer one. I looked in various dept stores and sport shops with intention of getting a heavy city style bike but didn't take to anything. Then I wandered into the local bike shop, with absolutely zero intention, and the bike shop guy pointed me at a trek fx in his best broken English

Well. I love it. Its my trusty steed. I cycled it all winter in temperatures down to -25C. I take it to the shops, to the pub, to work. But now I have a conundrum.

When I am, in Ireland, which is quite a lot, I have no bike. And now I'm thinking a road bike might be nice...

So, I can't justify a new one. And I'm not a serious cyclist. So can any of you point me to a good road bike for someone like me. Would need to be sturdy enough on country roads. The trek is a 17" or 44.5cm in size. Also, I have very narrow shoulders and small hands. Budget about 500. I figure there has to be a few lightly used bike to work scheme bikes going second hand.
