..had a quick look when stopped at the lights but didn't notice until I got home:

Amazed they survived the run home through Citywest/R136/Tallaght/N81 hard shoulder.

~5000km on them, not sure the exact model - Bontrager. Only had two punctures on this tyre in that time (over four years).

Now what to replace them with!

Lucky it didn't blow . Think it's time to change alright. Don't commute so not sure what would be good but a buddy commutes on vitoria pave
They are designed for Paris roubix

You got 5000 km with 2 punctures. Same again??
That flap has got to be rare.

Wow, that tyre looks very sqared off. With whatever tyres you choose to go with try not to let them square off this much. How was the cornering, especially in the wet?

My friend had those bontrager tyres and they lasted a long time with little puntrures. He got them again and they are working well. They are kevlar and are cheaper than gatorskins etc. I don't think they are about to blow or anything, I think just when the rubber gets too thin, is starts to peel of in places. Obviously has implictations for grip! Same thing happened me with an armadillo but it peeled off before is was well worn. I think the pair I got were just a bad batch.

Fine, only ever came off or had a wobble when cornering in icy conditions at speed.
