Threatened with claim closure for not receiving letter?

    Hi there,

been on JSB for a little over 4 months now. Had worked the past 15 years uninterrupted. Went for the Group Engagement Session in January and a one on one shortly afterwards where certain courses were discussed and said I 'd be interested in doing one. Then nothing since then...until a letter a few days back implying that I had refused a course or missed appointments set by the Employment Services Office!

I rang the Employment Action Plan department and they were informed by the ESO that a letter was sent to me about a course. I didn't receive any letter and was told it was my responsibility to ensure my postal system was working adequately and if it happens again, they'll close my claim not just cut it!

Is this standard procedure now - it seems fairly heavy handed? I've only been out of work a few months after working for a good number of years and is it fair I should receive a suspicious black mark against my name due to not receiving a letter? Is there a way to check this with An Post and challenge the actual posting of the letter?

I understand that your payment may be cut for refusing a course - I've no issues doing any courses - the issue I have is the threat of having your claim closed due to something beyond my control, i.e. not receiving any letter?

Does seem abit harsh alright for someone working for 15yrs and only claiming for 4 months.

unless they sent it registered post and can show you signed for it they are in the wrong.
the burden of proof that they sent that letter is on them and an post will not be able to help if they did not get a signature for the letter

go above them to make a complaint. this is sheer bad behaviour; as if life were not stressful enough without this

citizens info may be able to help
