    Well dudes and dudettes

Thinking of a few days break and herself suggested either of above

Have you been to either? Was it good fun? Expensive..

It would be for two 30 yr olds

I went to Alton Towers during the summer, it's pretty awesome, but you will need 2 days there, the park opens at 9 and closes at 5 giving you no time what so ever, plus you have massive, and I mean massive cues. I qued for 2 hours to get on the Smiler.

I can't think of a more hellish nightmare than spending 3 days in either place

I brought my kids to Alton towers when they were twelveish - they loved it. Me, not so much.

Two theme parks full of things to ride?

I think your missus is trying to tell you something.

I'd love to go to a theme park, but a man in his mid 30s wandering about on his own might look a bit weird.

Alton Towers is good craic and some of the rides are frightening. I was there a couple of years ago with a friend and had a great time. But going there for a 3 day 'break' with a girlfriend just sounds intolerable to me!

There does be hundreds of older people there without kids so I wouldn't worry about that. A lot of the attractions aren't suitable for children anyway.

Alton Towers is brilliant, but I certainly wouldn't want to go for more than a day.

Op. Your not actually going to 'live' at the park? What are yous going to do after two roller coasters, go to facepainting?

edit: I'm probably being overly negative. Nothing stopping yous driving or getting a lift out to the surrounding area. Then returning to your plastic mushroom house. :)

Me and two of the lads went last year.
    Great craic.
Get the express tickets and get there before the park opens.
We flew into Manchester on the first flight and rented a car. We we there before the gates opened.
Got completely wrote off in Manchester that night then went to Blackpool the next day for more roller coaster fun.
Blackpool was just as much craic as Alton towers. Total kip but funny.
Drove back to the airport then and home.
    Wouldn't bring the missus tho!
    **** that

Never been to Oakwood but i can highly recommend Alton towers. Want to stop there next month but my big biker boyfriend pooped his pants at the idea.

Word of advice, theme parks packed with school trips from June onwards.

I have been to Alton Towers twice it was good fun and been to Blackpool pleasure beach as well.

I would love to go back to both places but at most I would only spend 2 days at each of the places.

On second thought just the one day at Blackpool pleasure beach.

Check out Thorpe Park outside London, not too far from Heathrow airport. Could be perfect together with a London city break

Been to both, but not recently.Live pretty close to Wexford so have been to Oakwood a few times. It is good value but one day would be more than enough, depending when you go the park could be relatively quite. Get the ferry from Roslare over early in the morning and stay in Wexford that night. I'm pretty sure there are good deals offered where you are driven from the port to the park.

Couldn't offer a whole pile of advice on Alton Towers, the lines for rides are far worse than Oakwood however they have a much wider variety of rides.

    OBLIVION!!!!!!

I went there last year with my son ( hes 28) we had a feckin blast, all we did was ride the big coasters over and over. Two of us were in a heap leaving the place, sore bones from been shaking on the coasters, but we laughed the whole day:))
