Concerned dealer wont release logbook

I traded in a car for a newer car with a dealer. The dealer inspected my trade in a few times.
We struck a deal and I paid the dealer with a draft. He gave me a signed invoice receipt. I also signed the logbook and left it with him.
Dealer has now contacted me days after deal saying he has an engine issue with my trade in and is looking for more money from me!!!!
My worry is that he won't send the logbook into the tax office and I'm not sure if I want to wait weeks wondering if he has or hasn't.
Is there a way I can go ahead now and get a logbook organised independently of the dealer?

If you believe your car was good, cancel the sale and get back your money and your trade in. A deal is a deal

Were you aware of the engine issue before you traded the car in or did it only appear afterwards?

    Thanks for the replies.
No, car only NCT'd. Still don't know of any issue, only his word to go on.
I've been onto the Motor Tax office so I have a route to resolve my issue now.

What kind of a dealer is this, presume it's NOT a main dealer ?
