Apologies if this has been asked before, I'm just looking for advise on where to start with this.

We are thinking of getting a dormer conversion in our attic. The house is a semi attached 4 bed. So how do I get started? I assume I need planning permission, an architect and a builder? Do I need plans to get the planning permission? Who submits the planning application? etc....

So is there an idiots guide to getting this started? :o

You need to engage a competent person to do the drawings for planning permission. Your first step should be a local architect or engineer or technician/draughtsman.

They should guide you on a what to do basis.

    Where are you based?

Are you actually building a dormer or just converting your attic? If just converting you may not need planning.

See here for some good info to get you started:

Thanks for the replies. I live in Lucan, Dublin. Wondering if anybody could recommend a local architect?
