Anyone know how good is the oil.
They have 15w40 and 10w40 5l each for around €17

All I saw when I was in there was semi synthetic oil. No good to me anyway as I only use fully synthetic oil.

    What is the difference?

One is semi synthetic, and the other is fully synthetic.

If it meets the correct spec for your car, you should be grand. I haven't used it, but I use Halfords oil in mine, and it's perfect.

Usually in the 4 litre guise at that price?

For whats its worth Aldi don't own an oil refinery so its likely to be a big players oil

Micks garage had Castrol GTX for ,€20 recently.

Ebay is your friend, I get my 10 litres for my oil changes at €52 delivered.
Meeting bmw's ll04 spec which is one of the most stringent and expensive.

You dont put cheap dressing on a good salad. Why put cheap oil in a good car?
    Buy the good stuff.

Great to see all of Castrol's marketing dollars are paying good dividend

Tis fine if your vehicle isn't of the fussy type. Why use rolls-royce oil in a banger.

Wouldn't touch Castrol at all, I'd sooner use the aldi stuff.
Mobil1 makes my car happy :)

Using it myself picked it up 2 of themnon the discount in halfords ages ago @ €26 for 5 litres - got a few halfords own brand oil for €10 4 litres there a while ago.

Guess who makes it? Comma Oils - same crowd who make Mobil1

It does not matter what oil one puts in one's engine, as long as it's the right type and CHANGED within recommendations.

Expensive and cheap oils will do the same for a period of time, the cheaper needs to be changed sooner, but both need to be changed as recommended.

    ^ THIS - I find even with 10W40 : 10K miles your pushing it a bit I tend to do it every 6 - 8K miles

    Wow

I change my 530d every 7k, no chain or turbo trouble at 176k miles :)

No way would I push it to 10k or near it!

I'm just amazed they do 15w40 oil, not many people still driving Escorts and Cortinas anymore.

Some motorcycles take 15W40. I had an 1100cc Honda that did, think I still have 4 litres of that oil in the garage although the motorbike is long gone. :D

Lots of stuff on the road will happily run with 15w/40.

Here you go PA, works out at €47 to the north and then €3 with parcel motel to get it to my locality. 4 oil changes on this now having had it recommended to me.
    Can't fault it!

Parcelmotel will deliver 10L of oil?
They usually hold anything over 10kgs at the depot for collection at 7euro. Handy if you're close by but not for everyone.

They will, but given that even a 0W-30 is more-or-less useless at room temperature I wouldn't use a 15W-40 in these more enlightened times! :D

I bought 4 packs of it for our scramblers - they all use 15w40 and it's fine for them, changed very often, which it would be anyway, no matter which brand was used.

Use 10w40 as gear oil in the 2strokes :)

This time last year I came across an oil supplier out in Blanchardstown called The Oil Store who were doing unbeatable value in good quality oil, and I stuck up a thread about them:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=84005009

Shortly after that, I went back to get 20l of 5W 30 (VW 505.00/502.00) which was €90 (that's just €4.50/L, and it's also BMW LL-04).

They're actual competition bikes, though, yeah? F1 engines don't even bother with multigrade at all.

Yeah, Hondas and Yamahas and a few KTMs, there's a fair few. Some are comp. spec 450s and 250s, some are just for messing. Oil is changed oftem so it doesn't really matter. On topic, I bought 5w30 semi-syn for the jeep today for €8.19 ex vat for 5l..which I thought was good, surprisingly good. Twas Trade price tho.
