wow you are good at typing for a man with 11 pints on him.

I probably drink a bit too much every once in a while, but I don't drink that often anymore really. Certainly used to drink far, far too much in my late teens and early twenties, but the shine's gone off it now. I still have a drunken night every two or three weeks and have a drink or two (glass of wine or a beer) with food a few times a week, is that too much?

I'm suddenly dying for a drink.

    Probably.
I've had two bottles of red wine tonight.
I can type fairly well though. So evidently it's not enough.

Right now I still feel feelings. So drinking has failed. :(

I did up until my early 30s, was a borderline alcoholic, rarely drink now and when I do it's only 2 or 3 drinks.

Nah, I'm a lightweight even after years of drinking.
Carry me home after 6 pints.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

Yes definitely drink too much but I don't think I've a problem, I don't need to drink and can easily not drink.

Don't drink often but when I do I usually get steamboats. So, frequency-wise, I don't. But amount-wise when I do drink? Hell, yes. Would feel like crap if I drank like that regularly though.

    4 hours drinkin

    3.20 a pint of carling

drank 11 pints(I know by the money I have left!)

    = a pint every 20 mins!

    I wouldn't be broadcasting that.
Not really something to be proud of.
Claiming that there's nothing to do but drink leaves a lot to be desired too.

I used to drink more than I do.
    Growing up maybe!
Hangovers are not worth it. Plus 80euro can disappear quite quickly.

Is there anything to do in Ireland except drinking

This is a question that comes up a good bit.

Of course there is but we as a society have a terrible attitude toward drinking and try to tie it into everything we do or even go so far as to make it a valid hobby for someone to have.

I'm on a dating website (sad, i know) and literally every woman on there makes some kind of mention about going out drinking on their profile. The vast majority of my friends on Facebook only ever post pics of themselves drinking. It's like they don't do anything else of note, ever.

I recently quit drinking because i came to the realisation that i was probably in the early stages of being an alcoholic. It's very hard to hang out with my friends now because all they really seem to actually do as regards "activities" is go out drinking or stay in drinking. Not drinking in these situations is a pain in the hole because you just have to listen to the "c'mon ya dry****e, get sloshed" nonsense so i just don't bother hanging around with them any more.

I'm currently at the stage were i'm trying to figure out what to do with my spare time instead but i'm happy enough because i feel mentally and physically great for the first time in years.

I'd recommend quitting to anyone but you have to be prepared for it to change your life/relationships because of how drink-centric we are as a nation.

    Too much juice maybe.

    When I drink, yes.

I don't drink often, but when I do, it's too much.

Maybe I'm in denial about getting older, so I carry on with the 7.30 to 11.30 (roughly) drinking period of the last 4 years, but the hangovers get progressively worse.

Usually an indicator that I overdid it is when I wake up in the clothes I wore out....which happened this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

    Yes, yes I do.

Had two bottles last night. I feel ever so slightly less than 100% this morning, but I think that may be down to overdoing the lie in. I think I'll have to reign myself in a bit.

When I was a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding, I woke up after only two hours sleep with the dress still on. And it wasn't even a difficult dress to take off.

I do, it's mostly down to boredom. I actually went on a good run of dialling back on it a while ago, like for a month.

The funny thing is that people will say they drink to loosen up socially, but I found personally that I was actually more confident with a sober head on me.

When I did drink I was a machine for it,drinking vodka\whiskey raw straight from the bottle,in fact I'd say I'm a lucky man to be still standing today, couple that with the mayhem I caused from my last bender (still barred out of the local eurospar) I made the decision to quit!

Yeah definitely, can't stop most nights...college student so I can drink and drink and drink...cannot wait for the summer because I ease off the drink and I end up looking and feeling so much better plus I've money then...I've been finding lately that the day after I drink I feel very down and depressed even if the night before was unreal. In a way I'd love to give it up totally and I know I have the personality to do without it in a nightclub or wherever but I dunno the buzz from it is quite incredible...

I assume it's mostly 'younger' people posting here? I think people reach a certain age and finally get some sense regarding alcohol! From the comments here, it just serves to turn people into idiots!

What's your definition of younger? I'm 29 and myself and my group of friends are still out on weekly sessions. Some are into there 30's and no one is showing much interest in getting sense.

I'd drink too much fairly regularly... 12 pints a night 3 or 4 times a week.

I'm a student atm though, I'm sure the drinking will ease off when I finish.

At the risk of making an assumption, mostly single then and on the pull?

I'm 28. Love my 'sessions' but couldn't possibly do them every weekend. Maybe you don't suffer from hangovers. I do! And I despise waking up at 10am with a pounding head and having to go back to sleep again!

If babies make an appearance that will definitely be an end to the weekly sessions - god can you imagine the hangovers then!
