Thinking of buying either a 2009 Peugeot 407 or Citroen C5 diesel, (the 1.6 engine modelsl). Which should I go for in terms of reliability, running costs, ease of ownership etc etc. Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Presumably the newer model c5? That will be a superior car to the 407 as it's a much younger design (407 was launched in 04). The c5 was a big step up in quality too from most PSA cars.
Think the c5 is performing a lot better reliability wise but someone else may know that better. The 407 has been dissapointing.

The PSA 1.6 unit doesn't have a very good reputation. Problematic in nearly every vehicle that has it installed. Berlingo,Focus etc etc.
I don't know if those two have the same version of it but it can suffer from turbo failure if not serviced very very well.
The service interval was actually lowered for that engine IIRC.

Second generation C5 from 2008 onwards is a fresher design and nicer car all round than the 407 which was old hat by 2009. Engines are pretty much the same between both.
