Hi all, long story short, Myself and a friend are in the process of putting an open top bus on the road this summer. I was thinking of parking the bus in the spotting area beside Dublin airport for a few hours and then doing a drive around the airport perimeter. We could make it a boards.ie aviation spotters day out. Think we could get a few decent snaps from the top deck. Were planning on having the bus ready for August.

So whos up for it, a day out or any other ideas/suggestions?

Nice idea, but I think you need to remember a couple of things like...
On a good summers day there is hardly room for a car to park at the parking areas and I cant see a double decker bus being welcomed by the Gardaí or Airport police, also the mounds at the viewing areas are higher than the bus for photos but you might get some good shots around the back of the airport....

The bus is currently garaged in Cloghran (beside airport). I could have it in the parking spot early in the morn to secure its position for a few hours. We had the bus out last week on a test drive and stopped at that very viewing point. Viewing was grand and the bus wasn't causing any major problems. Were just having a few problems with its engine but hopefully all will be ok for the summer. We could drive around the back if that suits, somewhere near the boot inn.

Sounds like a great idea - especially for the summer. Throw in a way of serving tea/coffee and a few sandwichs and you could have a winner.

And fingal co co on your tail. Parking a bus length ways will take up a serious amount of car spaces........not trying to rain on your parade but be prepared for hassle.

Besta luck though......love to see folk thinking outside the box

First come first served when it comes to parking spaces, if your bus takes up a few spaces that's their problem not yours....

theres a few coach drivers who park in the main viewing spot at the foot of 28/34. never seen them moved on. after all it is a lay-by.

I've often seen 40ft trucks parked at the viewing points and never nothing said. There is no bans on what vehicles you can park there, its a viewing point for the public, not just avid spotters

I toyed with this idea some years ago but just never followed it through. I think you'd be on a winner, especially around the back of the airport. Have you see that cityjet have covered the fence so you cant see into there hanger area and by the looks of it there will be new fencing up along 28/10 soon.
Best of luck to you and I'll gladly support your enterprise any time im out there

just don't price the crap out of it and you'll be grand, sounds like a good idea, as others, I have seen buses and trucks pulling over for a good while, no problems whatsoever

Manchester airport hired in a cherry picker for a few days for spotters to use from their AVP, bus would be ideal on the northern side of 28/10 for great shots over the fencing to traffic on the taxiway.

Sounds like a great idea, easy enough to move around if there was ever a runway change between 28/10 and 34/16.

Would've loved something like this back in the days of runway 23 with the large parking area at the back of the airport. Lots of room there.

Its very similar idea to what malta international airshow did on the enthusiast pass for the weekend it gave you access to the runway threshold area and everyone was watched to remain in the safety area
