Saw this amazing trinket box that could be used to propose with either a fake ring (if buying the ring later together) or the actual ring.

You can then keep the box as a keepsake or even hang it on your Christmas tree.

    Check out the attached pics!

The box is Newbridge Silver and is €25.

Here's the link to it http://www.newbridgesilverware.com/present/ACCESSORIES/WY6887L/RingBox

€25 for a box! I'm sure some would like it but yeah, that's not for me!

What'd make it awesome would be doing something special with your partner that means something to them. Again, that's me, I'm sure your experience will differ.

Personally I'd rather spend the €25 on a nice bottle of wine to mark the occasion!

Anyone got any other ideas to add to the proposal experience?!

WTF, why, oh why would you buy a fancy box to fake propose. Who fake proposes anyway? Is this a thing? Do people actually buy fake proposal rings so they can "propose" but she knows about it so its neither romantic or a surprise and then they go buy a real ring after so she can pretend thats what he gave her and it was oh so wonderful and romantic?

put yourself 15 years down the line
spoilt kids , alcoholism and both of you screwing around.
then the solicitors and fees and bitterness.
think of the one bedroom musty flat you get for 20 years work

but yeah its all fun and games at the time.
esp for the person selling the box for £25.

    bit tongue in cheek ;)

wishing you all the happiness you seek.

just be yourself and trust the proposal plans you have in your own head

    Lol!

But if all the above doesn't happen you have a lovely trinket that can be passed down as an heirloom

Yup people do propose with a "dummy" ring and then go buy the real ring together

Not being funny, but the box mentioned in the OP, whilst lovely is a complete waste of money! I'd rather put the money towards a nice meal to celebrate...

I've never understood this either. Either he proposes or he doesn't! And yes - I've seen plenty of angst-ridden threads on here asking whether a dress ring should be bought or whether the guy goes ahead and buys a ring in the hope she'll love it. Seems to be an Irish thing as I've never heard of this either in England where I'm from or Barbados which is my heritage. The bloke proposes (doesn't matter where - it'll be awesome anyway, cos he proposed! :D). Either he'll have the ring ready or he'll do what my Irish hubby did. Propose anyway, and take the lucky lady (me!) out shopping a few days later to choose her ring. Job done! :D

Sorry but this is really sad comment. No need to twist it into such a negative experience. Im not engaged yet but a number of people i know proposed with a token ring and have read of plenty of here who have done the same and the idea of shopping together for a ring would appeal to alot of people. I know people who thought it added to the whole amazing buzz of the engagement. Also a girl will be wearing the ring for a hopefully a long time, she should get some input into what she would like.

I guess its abit of traditional for guys to have some token when proposing and dont like the idea proposing empty handed. Nothing wrong with dress rings in the slightest

Yes it's all down to personality and preference. I can see where you are going with the meal idea.......I'd taken it as a given that you'd be brought out for a meal if you were proposed to! :D

Personally I love both trinkets and Christmas decorations. I'd love to be reminded of our engagement as I hung the box on the tree each year.

    Each to their own!

    I like the box idea.

You know €25 isn't the worst outlay either.

What I think is crazy when someone is proposing and they spend €150 on a "dress" ring.....when their budget for the actual engagement ring is €1500.

Like why would you blow 10% of your budget on another ring
I think if you are proposing with a ring that isn't the actual ring just get either a over the top completely ridiculous plastic ring from Claires or at a push a fake dress ring from Oasis or M&S for €10/15.

So in summary I think this box is cute. And you at a minimum you will always have it as a Christmas decoration (awwww! and a reminder every year when you take down the christmas decorations) so in a way it is just like a newbridge silver xmas tree decoration*.

*the year I got married someone gave me a newbridge silver decoration of a church which looks like the church I got married in and I like seeing that every year.
