    Wow, that brings me back. When I was a kid, there was a pond that had loads of them. Spent half my childhood watching them/catching them. Apart from the smooth ones, there were also ones with a sort of wavy ridge down their backs.

    The ones with wavy ridge were male Smooth Newts as opposed to female. Dave
