Unable to get Eircom

I ordered Eircom a couple of months ago, and had numerous visits from technicians and today was told that my broadband "wouldn't sync" and "I am too far away from the exchange".

Yet most of my neighbors have Eircom and they actually replaced most of the phone lines on our road because they found a fault first time they came out to install it. So lines replaced, neighbors getting broadband, some of whom are a couple of hundred yards further away from the exchange than me.

Can any of you folks who know about this stuff make any sense of this?

There are only a few options really. You could be connected to a different exchange/cabinet to your neighbours or your line being of a worse quality than theirs being the more likely ones.

We're connected to the same exchange and I'm a completely new customer with a new line installed to the house from the road.

Probably a crap line or crap internal wiring. Even if thry do get sync it'll probably be at 0.5mb

If there's fibre in the area, buy a house near a cabinet: http://www.eircomwholesale.ie/Our_Network/#nga-map

Click on the 3rd map called: "fibre broadband network".

Sure I might aswell buy two while I'm at it.

I wish I could afford to buy a house.

I was actually thinking along the lines of just moving into a vacant house belonging to my uncle which is half the distance between where I am now and the Eircom exchange, and I already inquired about it and they said 6mb dl which isn't too bad.

Anyone know what the story is with Eircom not able to provide me with internet and them being Irelands Universal Service Provider? I have a feeling emobile selling dongles is there get out clause for that one :(

Three run the NBS for most of the country, good luck with that one.

What's three got to do with it? I think maybe you're being confused with NBS and USP.

    There's no USO for broadband.

I thought the USO covered an internet connection no less than 28.8kbps.

Which they have covered with dialup.

Which they have covered with dialup.

I asked for them to fulfill their obligations with being the USP in Ireland and they offered me dial up and I agreed, but soon as we went to the order process they pulled the plug and said they didn't offer dial up anymore.

ummm the regulations/EU directives that Comwreck have transcribed and put in place only cover voice and "Functional Internet Access" which Comwreck have decreed as being 28k but good luck finding a dialup provider these days...

As an aside these are the same EU directives that give Finland a legal right to broadband...

Blame Comwreck for not giving a toss about consumers...
