Does cloud storage count or just physical boxes in your house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭brianwalshcork

    Less than 1 tb

I'd say that most SMEs have less primary storage (so excluding back up to disk storage) then you are suggesting... After the initial acquisition cost, the problem with lots of storage is that it all needs to be backed up and inevitably, if disk space is provided it'll be used, once it's used, and once it's used rarely recovered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭ronkmonster

5x3TB in raid5 giving 12TB(10.8TB real size) in my home server.
1 nas with 2x2TB for backups of the important stuff.
    Another with 2 x 500gb.

2TB as second drive in main PC. plus a few 1tb drives retired from server lying around.

    Not enough
2tb on board plus 1tb external, and rapidly running out
    More is better, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

3.5tb. 1gb of it is in a raid so that's two 1tb hard drives, a 2tb hard drive, an old 500gb drive that I'll replace at some stage and a 80gb SSD for OS.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭Baked.noodle

Internal 500 GB plater drive and a 120 GB SSD. Plenty of space for me as I back up all my data on external drives (2 x 1 TB and 500 GB).

Since i never posted it in my opening post,

I got 10.5TB at home. Bulk of it is connected to a MacBook which sits under my TV and serves it out to my computer and my Ouya running XBMC. Rest is used as a backup drive for my computer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭crazygeryy

Jeez i thought i was brilliant with my 2.5tb.

I have a Hp Proiant micro server with 10TB (2x 3TB + 2x 2TB) and am continuously mass deleting to make room for new downloads. I'm a HD snob, have even re downloaded some shows and movies in HD.

    10-12TB...

    Computer
    • 1x 1TB
    • 1x 500GB

    Home Media Server
    • 1x 3TB
    • 1x 2TB
    • 1x 1TB

    2x Backup NAS kits (NSA320)
    • 3x 500GB
    • 1x 320GB

    External HDDs
    • 1x 1TB
    • 1x 500GB

This is the culmination of various computer builds. I never get rid of hard drives so I have a few 160GB/250GB HDDs lying around too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

I've a bunch of hdds and a couple of ssds sitting around that I keep threatening to put into a media centre build but who has the time? So somewhere between 3-4tb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭markad1

    PC
    240GB SSD
    4 X 3TB

    Buffalo NAS
    4 x 3TB Raid 5

The PC was set for raid 5 but the raid kept failing so scraped the raid and went with copying files for backup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,423 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

16TB of media + 16TB backup (Held off site) so 32TB

    1 TB, and 256gb ssd.

    1 TB internal
    3 TB time machine
    3 TB iTunes
    3 TB Carbon Copy Cloner
    2 TB photos
    2 TB documents

Docs & pics are also mirrored to cloud. & I have crashplan backing up everything.

Lost data before. Not happening again. Also have a media player with 1.5TB but that doesn't get backed up

Synology 12 bay NAS = 7x 4TB in RAID6 =18TB formatted capacity (with some spare for iSCSI that's yet to be set up), plus room for 5 more drives in the enclosure.

4x 2TB in RAID5 (external enclosure) for backups of critical data.

Main desktop rig is 2x 60gb SSD's for OS in RAID0 and 1x 1TB for data.

Work laptop is 256gb SSD and 2tb portable USB drive for data, plus various USB keys and SD cards from 256mb up to 64gb all in regular use.

    Home laptop with 130gb HDD.

one HTPC with 128gb SSD and another with a 60gb SSD.

plus the obligatory dropbox (80gb) and google drive (15gb) plus 1tb of symform online storage for offsite backups paid for with some of my own local storage in exchange.

there's probably 1tb plus in spare hard drives of various sizes from 500gb down to 8gb (from an old xbox) laying around in my 'office' (i.e. junk room) as well as about 20 boxes of various other gadgets and computer parts from the last 12 years. :D

    2x 256GB SSD drives

4xTBs on a remote dedi server using Plex

3.5TB on board with 4 x 1TB drives via caddy and a half dozen 500GB.

I have started to make drives specific, the fastest ones are in the PC or scheduled to be and then I'll have, say video projects, dascam trips, photos, movies separate.

    But I'm think it through.
