    I assume you're connecting to Cathay Pacific in London or elsewhere? And 9.45am is your Irish departure? If so 8am arrival to airport is time enough to check in for 9.45 departure.

    My dear old MIL has a saying for situations like this;

    Allow for the cow on the track.

    Get the early bus and enjoy breakfast.

    I think the problem is he won't have time for breakfast if he's catching the earlier bus...

    For the 08:00 bus arrival:

    Assuming gate closing at 09:15 for a domestic / Euro flight and actually entering the terminal around 08:15 ( by the time you disembark and pull your luggage from the bus ) you'll be clipping the tail-end of the second wave of morning departures so that should be fine. Should be tapering-off at security.

    However, as roadsmart indicates, that's assuming the bus runs to sched.

    The earlier bus was due in at 6am, more than enough time to wander around and grab a bite to eat. 8am arrival would be fine for a 9:45am plane departure.

    I would always go for the earlier bus.
    I would much rather be hanging around the airport drinking coffee, reading the paper, snoozing, surfing the (free) internet etc waiting for my gate to open than sitting on bus hoping it doesn't get a flat tyre, stuck in traffic, involved in an accident etc watching the clock and hoping the queues for check in/ security aren't crazy (as they can sometimes be).
    But that's just me....

    It's cutting it too fine, even if you can skip the queue at security! I'm quite firmly in the camp of arrive early and relax rather than tearing through the terminal. :)

    8am arrival at the airport is by no means guaranteed. All it takes is a crash up the road ahead of you and you could easily add 30 mins to your journey time.

    Personally I think you could definitely make that if the bus arrived at the correct time provided your checked in already and don't have any check in baggage as it means you have over an hour to get through security and get to your gate. But even then that's assuming the bus is on time and there are no unexpected delays.

    I'm a stickler for getting to the airport well on time. I always get there and I'm hanging about for ages before the flight knowing I could have got the later bus and perhaps an extra hour sleep (if it's an earlier flight) but flights and accommodation are too expensive to take even a small chance on imo. I look forward to the hypothetical day when flights are cheap enough and security is streamlined enough that it'll just be like getting a bus :p
