Jobseekers benefit and dependent child living arrangements

Apologies if this query has been posted before, I've been unable to find one using the search option.

I applied today for jobseekers benefit. As part of the application I stated that I have a child dependant but am no longer living with his dad. I am primary carer and hold custody but my son lives 50% of the time with his dad. The lady in the welfare office asked for a letter from me stating this.

I'm not sure why she asked this as her reply was simply to cover myself. Obviously the dad is reluctant to sign such a note.

Has anyone come across this before?

There's an increase of €29.80 per child that's living with you normally.

You could be entitled to this, ot half this if the other parent is also claiming a payment.

Thanks for that I was aware of the amount available, Dad isn't in receipt of any payment currently.

I was just unsure why they needed the letter/note.
