    Hello,

I'm hoping to buy a small car for my wife while she's on maternity leave. Nothing fancy but something that's reliable and can easily accomodate a baby plus all that paraphanalia.

    Budget is about €5000 - €7000 max.
Won't be too much driving done so whether it's petrol/diesel is not too important.
    Small engine - 1.2L max
As new and as low mileage as budget above allows

    Advice much appreciated.

Any advice from others in similar circumstances re baby seat etc. also appreciated.

p.s. doesn't have to be a looker but I couldn't look at a Fiat Panda in my driveway either :)

My sister in law drives a Hyundai i20. Seems to manage ok with the car seat. The i30 might have a bit more room.

Consider the fact, that small (light) cars are going to end up quite poor in any kind of accident with other bigger vehicle, so purely for safety reasons maybe consider something bigger...
What's the reason you are looking for a small car for them?

    Bit rash, no?
It's not like modern small cars are deathtraps.

They are less deathtraps than old small cars, but physics are still the same.
Collision between Yaris and Landcruiser is always going to end up way worse for Yaris.

Auris is 1.4 litre though. OP wants 1.2 litre max.

OP, my sister has one of these for the last 3 to 4 years and it hasn't given any trouble. Nice to drive and she carries a big and medium size dog in it regularly:

+1 to the Fiesta. They are a great car. You'd have no bother getting a baby seat in the back.
