How do I drive this car home or even get it to the test center if the NCT & tax is out by one year?

It also needs some slight repair before it will pass the NCT. So how do I drive it to the garage?

    edit: one more question.

Can you haggle with most dealers?

If a car is €1,100 ... can I arrive with 900 cash and say let's do this.

Personally, If I decide that the car is in a road worthy condition I would just drive it home. You probably aren't allowed to do this but I'm fairly sure it's considered ok... If you can't judge for your self if the car is safe to drive than you should have it checked over by a mechanic or just pay to have it transported to your house.

As for haggling, it depends what the dealer needs to make on the car, no one here can tell you if he will accept that offer or not.

    Make sure it's insured anyway.
If you decide to drive it home with no tax and test , it is illegal and there is a risk you'll get caught and the car impounded.
Probably most people would chance it and hope any Gard who stopped them was reasonable. Don't park in a public place where a foot patrol might see it.

I wasn't asking if my offer was a good one or not. I was just wondering if dealers expect a bit of haggling and is it "the done thing" when buying cars in Ireland. I have only bought cars from friends before so I'm a noob in the car dealer world.

Generally cars for €1k from a dealer are probably someone else's cast offs. Your at the bottom of the market here so don't expect much off the asking price or much in the way of comeback.
