Ming Flanagan must be smoking something

Ming has asked Shatter if he would consider purchasing an aircraft carrier to protect Ireland.

First of all, aircraft carriers costs billions and secondly Ireland don't actually have any aircraft capable of taking off or landing on an aircraft carrier...to go further, Ireland don't have any aircraft capable of protecting ourselves in any capacity.

This, from Flanagan is probably a good thing as it shows him up for the complete and utter dopehead that he is.

This wasn't an April fools story.

A joke of a politician, but the joke is on us. I mean how bad must the usual crop be for people to be so tired that they wheel on an idiot like that?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Thats quite bizarre

He really is just a disaster. Shouldn't be allowed in the Dail if he's just going to take the piss (or if he's going to spout out utter nonsense without even doing a bit of research.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

He wasn't being serious, he just wasn't allowed to ask this question:

    Twitter
Farcical question for a farcical Minister. This is the original question which was refused. Would like an answer.
To ask the Minister for Defence if he is aware that US soldiers carry their rifles while on board planes using Shannon Airport; is the Minister aware that a US Airforce plane which landed at Shannon Airport was equipped with a 30mm cannon; would the Minister consider holding a referendum to make Irish Neutrality absolute and by so doing exclude Ireland from the war manoeuvres of other nations, and if he will make a statement on the matter

Not sure why he'd want to ask Shatter that type of question on foreign policy.

But that wouldn't stop The Journal from shìte journalism, anyways.

I think its a disgrace that those soldiers are carrying guns. If they keep doing things like that they'll end up in a war.

Ming, smoking something? You must be mistaken.

Did you actually go and check this before posting your outrage to AH??

People are very quick to fits of blind rage without checking anything, guess that's modern journalism and guillable readers.

    They deserve each other.

What's really sad is that some people mistake Ming's muck-savage outrage and bluster as somehow being the words and actions of a committed politician. He's no better than a Healy-Rae only he wears tatty wool jumpers instead of a tatty wool hat.

Scarlet for you and TheJournal for carrying this as if it was a real question.

Did you hear North Korea have landed on the sun?

[sarcasm]Silly Ming, doesn't he know if we get an aircraft carrier we also need everything that comes with it,
CSG or CVBG normally consist of 1 Aircraft Carrier, 1 Guided Missile Cruisers (for Air Defense), 2 LAMPS (Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System) Capable Warships (focusing on Anti-Submarine and Surface Warfare), and 1–2 Anti Submarine Destroyers or Frigates

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/33/Abraham-Lincoln-battlegroup.jpg [/sarcasm]

But in all honesty this story is a complete no go, there was no seriousness in it, its fairly obvious to see.

Plus the only source on this story seems to be from the journal, nobody else paid it any attention

Bar one or two they're all equally bad - just some dress it up better than others.

gonna disagree with you on this.
I like Ming , he represents the people in a correct way.
Too often we have politicians making lofty statements with no regard for what is happening "on the ground" in peoples lives.
Too often policy is determined by statistics and the like,.

I find Ming refreshing...sure he makes mistakes (that are highlighted with gusto by the media) but who doesn't.

    Is that directed at me?

I read the story on a news website. How do you propose I or anyone check it out? Maybe looking for minutes of the fail? You seem to be the one getting outraged. I just think Flanagan is a twat, it's hardly a blind rage.

Although I really do like the idea of more independents in the dail, I sometimes have to wonder if I'm wrong when Ming (FFS  ) Flanagan opens his stupid mouth.

I spoke with Ming once when he was here about the turf cutting, he is actually a fairly well clued in guy who speaks a lot of sense, but like most of us he will occasionally get it wrong.

    It's called being human.

Mick Wallace on the other hand......

Could we not be pioneers in the field and build some sort of giant super carrier that does all that tuff in one? Then we can start knocking them out goodo and flog them for billions. We'll be rich I tells ya

Is this where the Irish Government will be managing the enemy engagement during the upcoming World War Z?

If anyone gets the book reference, well done.

So because he's a culchie with poor dress sense (in your eyes), he should be ignored? If you've got a point, you're hiding it really well by casting aspersions over him seemingly based on those two reasons.

It seemed pretty clear this article had the agenda of discrediting Ming. It just gives one statement and willfully takes it out of context. The first thing I thought reading the article was "when and where did he say this?" The fact that kind of information is omitted should ring alarm bells straight away.

Another example of bias and bullying tactics in Irish media.

Not that he's the only one but a bit of corruption for a politician is a tad worse than occasionally getting it wrong. Worse again that he came in on a ticket of changing the old guard

Those of you here who knock Ming, have you ever challenged the man face to face about his beliefs? Have you even engaged in mere banter with him?
I've spoken at length with him, as have many of my friends of various political persuasions and none of them have a bad word to say about Ming.
He not only represents the interests of his constituents, he actively pursues matters of national importance. He has also represented people and causes in constituencies other than his own and I've never heard of him failing to help those who've sought his assistance.
He's not perfect, but he's one of the most dedicated public representatives we've got.
If you disagree, then please name a TD from your own constituency who is a better public representative nationally than Ming.
I look forward to your input.

Perhaps...but he does himself no favours with his outbursts...his appearance(shallow i know) is also likely to alienate him amongst more traditional constituents.

Somewhat a more entertaining thing Ming has done lately. Kinda like his new twitter picture (nicked from one of the related articles):
