Going to Africa on safari

    Hi

I'm looking to go to Africa on a safari this summer, but I don't really know the first thing about how to plan/research it.

I don't have a time frame. Maybe one week or two.

    I'm thinking Madagascar or Tanzania.

Can I book this alone or am I best advised to go via a tour company?

    Thanks.

We landed in Kenya with nothing booked. Our flight landed about 4pm, told the hotel reception we'd like to go on a safari, within an hour there was a travel agent at our hotel room offering us a 4 day tour for about $450 each. Left the following day. I'm sure there's probably cheaper to be had by looking around Nairobi, but we were happy with that price (a lot cheaper than pre-booking via the internet)
