If you're from the North, I assume you're a UK citizen? There is a visa waiver programme for UK citizens, but I'm not sure if this applies to people wanting to move there.

Has your husband put the wheels in motion with the US Embassy for you to join him as his spouse? That, I assume would be the first step.

    Ring the Embassy.

Ahh, if you've been an overstayer before, then I suspect that the visa waiver programme no longer applies to you, no matter where you're from.

Did you leave voluntarily, or get deported? I suspect it makes a difference.

Personally I'd have him starting the enquiry process, rather than you. The embassy people are more likely to be helpful to one of their own.
