    Hello

    Any westerns experts out there?
I'm looking for the name of a western which starred Burt Lancaster and Virginia Mayo.
The basic storyline is about Italians taking grape vines to California. Burt Lancaster escorts them through Indian territory during their journey. Does this ring any bells with anyone?
It's my father who wants to see it again but he's sketchy on the details as it was probably back in the 60/70's that he saw it.

    is this it?
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053359/

It's an unusual subject for a western, a wagon train of Basque immigrants from the French Pyrennees who are going to California to start their own wineries. Their most precious cargo is the vines carrying the grape seeds that have to be watered. Of course on the desert, man and animals also have to be watered

That Jeff Chandler one is what instnatly came to mind. If I'm not mistaken Lancaster and Mayo only made two films together and neither was a western

    Yes
this is the film he's been looking for though he had completely the wrong actors. He's been going through a nostalgic phase lately. First it was the music he listened to years ago now its the films he watched. He says he watched so many westerns that he gets confused over who starred in what.
Just off the phone with my mum to tell her i'd found it. He'll be delighted to know he can watch it again.
    Might watch myself as well.

Massive thank you for helping me out.
