    Hey all,

As the title says I want to go to Thailand. I have recently fell in love with the place from reviews I've read and pictures I've seen.

I don't really want to spend a holiday in somewhere like Bangkok but I would like to be able to visit Bangkok for a day or two.

I kind of want somewhere near the beach and countryside (but not the middle of nowhere either)

I know I'm being awful specific here but this holiday would be a once in a lifetime thing!

Where could I go that would let me visit preferably Bangkok and then spend the remainder of my holiday near the beach,

How much would this cost approximately?

    Thanks!! :D

Go to Khao Lak! Amazing place, right on the beach and a very short trip to Khao Sok National Park which is beautiful. Also, close to Phang Nga Bay which is unreal.

It's about an hour's drive from Phuket. It's much less touristy than other places like Koh Samui/Krabi etc although it's quite a bit way from Bangkok. We flew to Kuala Lumpur (spent a few days there) and then onto Phuket.

I recommend all the above too. Also Ko Chang is fantastic and not very touristy - you can get a bus there directly from Bangkok airport

I had 10 days in Thailand in February. Absolutely brilliant time.. a week in Koh Samui and then a few days in Bangkok before I went on to Sydney. If you want message me and I'll give you the detail of what I got up to. As regard cost, it's going to depend on who you fly with and what time of year your going. Shots.. you'll need to get some shots before you go.. I got typhoid, hep a and a tetanus booster about a month before I traveled out!

    Thanks everyone for the replies!

What's the best time of year to visit Thailand because I want to go there when the weather and sea is warm but not absolutely boiling?

All the places recommended look like exactly what I was looking for :D

Maybe consider Koh Lanta as well, was there among a few other places in Thailand last summer. Again, not very touristy but a really amazing landscape. Renting scooters for less than a fiver a day and spinning around the island for a couple of days is something I won;t forget in a hurry! :D

  • I'd recommend chaing mai for the country then fly down to samui for the beach

Koh Lanta and Chaing Mai both look brilliant! The beaches in Koh Lanta look really good and Chaing Mai has really cool trekking tours by the looks of it!

What would be the best time of year to visit? Not too hot but not cold either

I second that. I spent three months backpacking around Asia on the way to Oz in 2011 and that part of Thailand was one of the most amazing places I've been to.
