What shorts to buy..?

I've been trawling through CRC, Evans and Wiggle looking for a pair of shorts now that summer is approaching
There are just so many to choose from and I don't know where to start
Most of my cycling would not be long distance by most standards on here but I'll still need a pair that would provide comfort over 140km for the odd spin of that distance
I also don't know whether to go for waist short or bib shorts
Ideally I'd like not to spend much more than €60 is possible

So any suggestions of what to go for please??

Bib shorts. Way more comfortable. Also stops your crack being exposed.

I've heard a few say similar to that too. Any particular brand or model that are known good quality + comfortable

Some guys like the DHB stuff and it is priced well and comfortable. I've never had any though.

was just going to recommend the dhb stuff, have a couple of pairs of the bibs and they're decent gear, and not too expensive

Plus 1 on bibs - anything else is waste of time IMHO.

DHB stuff is well made and reasonable. Cant' complain quality wise.

Closer to home, keep an eye out at the www.cyclesuperstore.ie. Around this time of the year, they normally do reductions on Bicycle Line shorts. I have to say I can't fault them.

Edit: Wiggle doing 50% off DHB stuff ATM, might include bib's.

'Funkier' bib shorts are good quality and comfortable, 17 panel version for about £35

    +1 on Santini and Prendas
Was looking at these this morning, they seem like good value... http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ID=3100
Santini is high end stuff but Prendas seem to do good deals on it. I have two pair on Santini Slice Bibshorts and they are very good.

our club have Santini shorts and they are good. keep away from BBB. Sportful and Castelli are other good brands if you could afford to go to 70 euro or above. DHB are great value and my winter bibs of 2 years are one of the best investments i made.
all black shorts dont float my boat even though they were my first pair.

Prendas jerseys are nice - I have several - but the cheaper Santini shorts I bought from them haven't worn well at all and the padding is quite thin (not Assos-Uno-good thin, more like Lidl-special-bad-thin).

Decathalon's own brand are fantastic, make sure you get the bib shorts with the orange padding as these are the beefiest and designed for 3hrs plus in the saddle!

Decathalon Belfast will sell online and deliver to the Republic too. Or else its store in Belfast is well worth the journey!

I've got a few pairs of the Pro-bike kit shorts recently and am very happy with them - they've become my go to brand in terms of value.
The Elite shorts are good value at the moment at €43.05 - http://www.probikekit.co.uk/sports-clothing/pbk-elite-cycling-bib-shorts/10749580.html

Never even noticed. Wierd they've no other sizes and all the PBK branded ones are low on stock. Must be a new design coming out.

Regards the bib shorts.... What do you do when you're 3 hours into a cycle and need to wee.........!!!! It just seems that waist shorts are more practical for this purpose???

If you're a man, you go over or under. Lycra stretches.

I'd definitely spend a wee bit extra of bib shorts.

    This are ok:

    But I'd buy these:

Your arse will thank you for spending a little extra.

You should definitely consider Santini Core Max Bib Shorts, currently available from Ribble Cycles @ €61.00 + €6.00 p&p. Still slightly cheaper than CRC who offer free postage. I find these pretty good and very reasonably priced.

I highly recommend Altura ProGel bib shorts, excellent fit and padding and ideal for longer days in the saddle.

Just one more question about these bib shorts

Which is more important size wise... Waist or height
I was looking at Santini bib shorts on Ribble

My waist measurement fits into the medium category but my height fits into the upper end of the large category.

Should I choose size based on waist measurement??

I would imagine that height would be more important for you, there is usually some stretch flexibility around the waist. I have found their chart to be pretty accurate for both bib shorts and bib tights.

If you want to try bib shorts locally I can recommend Altura, especially Progel. Some stores in Dublin stock them, got mine in Fitzcycles and they seem to wear better than others (including boards kit ones).

Thanks. Living in Mayo!! I get a good bit of stuff in my LBS and try to support it as much as possible but there is not the selection of shorts really.

Picked these up on sale last week for under €50, very nice shorts.

Had for short 30km spin tonight, will try for 100km plus at weekend, firm favourite for the Fleche now!
