Looking for some feedback from you experts on here. Reluctantly selling the family car. Honda accord 2litre S type. Have it from new since 07. Wife mainly drives it.

It only ever did mainly short runs and the odd drives down to Galway to relatives hence the low mileage of 76k.

I know it's a 2 litre and petrol so what realistically would I expect to get for it.

    Thanks.

Why are you changing? It's probably worth more to you than to others. I'd say 6-7k on done deal as a private sale.

OP, here is one on dd asking €6500 with slightly higher mileage so this is what you will be up against:

They are a good car but because of the current diesel fashion resale values are not great.

Cheers for that bazz and muppetcheck.

Selling car as daughter wants to start driving, but I'm sure insurance is mad money. Thinking of buying 1.4 litre so she can go named driver. Option of buying another car and keeping Honda is out of question.

I'd get a few insurance quotes first before parting with it. Will be hard enough to replace it with something smaller as reliable and as nice to drive.

I know, love the car. Very comfortable to drive. Was half thinking of getting a vw golf.

Will ring insurance company tomorrow so. Thanks.

A 1.4 golf don't. Whatever about a diesel one or 1.6 petrol a 1.4 would be seriously dead to drive. And for the sake of a few hundredth euro difference is be keeping your car.

I think long term you might be better off with the accord. You know the car, it will be reliable, your daughters insurance won't be forever and they are a nicer car than a Golf.

Even a €700 1l Micra? Your daughter will be able to build up her own NCB on her own car that way, which will save her a lot of money in a few years time.

I think your overplaying the whole insurance thing abit op. When I was 17 with a provisional (male) I paid 1000 euro to be named on a brand new octavia the car was literally a day old. So your insuring a female on a 07 car it couldn't be that high. The only worry would be the fact it's a 2.0l but again that may not effect it as much. Until you get quotes it's all only guess work.

Got declined from two Insurance companies so far. For arguement sake I said put in a new 1.4 golf etc. Got quote for three of us of 1200 euro fully comp.

    Will try a few more.

Getting insurance for a teenage learner on a 2L petrol Accord is going to be a difficult task, and I seriously doubt quotes will be for €1000, even as a named driver!

So a delta of 500 - I have to agree with the other posters - if you know and like the accord it almost certainly worth keeping it....

I have a 1.4 TSI Golf, at 122 BHP it's not dead at all.

90% of 1.4 Golfs sold here were only 75/80bhp though which is probably what he meant.

I think I'd agree with what has been said above.. if the only reason for selling the Accord is to get something for your daughter to start off in, then buy a cheap 1L Micra or similar for < 1000, and let your wife keep using the Accord until your daughter has a year or two under her belt and can take it on when the insurance has dropped.
