2004 Polo - Engine Trouble

Having some engine problems with my car's engine lately. 2004 Polo, 1.2L engine, 3 cylinder.

The engine sounds fairly normal, but it's not running as smoothly as usual and feels a bit heavy -ie. it feels like it needs slightly more revs than usual!

Only passed the NCT literally 10 days ago, and never had any major problems with it before, so I'm hoping it's just something small like a coil needing replacing, rather than something major :o

    Any ideas?

Could be the coil-pack. Wouldn't go replacing anything without a diagnostics scan though.

any idea of a rough cost of getting it done?

I'm just praying it's nothing major!

They are very well known for going through coilpacks, but usually an engine management light will come on...

Easiest thing to do is get it scanned.

Yeah I'll bring it in tomorrow. I've had a coil go before a couple of years ago, but a warning light came on that time so it's a strange one.

Cheers for the offer, but I'm the opposite end of the country!

Any good independent garage will have good diagnostic equipment and should charge you under €50 for a scan. A main dealer will charge you more.

I have seen instances of this engine burning out valve seats, at the time not repairable, new head needed and very expensive.

    Hope its not this!

    Just an update on this.

The engine still wasn't right Friday and Saturday.. topped up the petrol Saturday evening and didn't drive it all day Sunday.

Drove to college Monday and everything was back to normal.
Brought it into the garage anyway, the mechanic didn't hook it up to anything as he said it sounded perfect, took it for a drive and said more than likely I just got a bad batch of fuel which messed with the engine! He didn't charge anything for looking at it either! (Rays Car Repairs, Waterford) :D

Fingers crossed the problem doesn't come back.

    Thanks for your help :)
