Here are some photos from my visit last year. The course is very flat, but if the heat is up it is still hard work - we played in 30 degrees and there's a pool beside the 10th tee - a few of us felt like taking a break.

It's the oldest course on the Algarve and is a gentle experience - it's not a thriller but it maintains a good rhythm the whole way round. Not too tough either.

Cool i heard it was one of the toughest courses over there so out of curiosity what is your handicap? Did you stay in the hotel?

We were staying further west, at Martinhal. My handicap is 7. The course is manageable if you're reasonably straight off the tee. There are some tough holes - sure - but once you're in the fairway it's mostly straightforward. 9 is a tough dogleg, and the par threes 13 and 16 call for guts. There's a fair amount of water and if you're in the trees, it's mostly hitting out sideways.

    Hi op
Have played this course for many years
Greens always in excellent condition. Fantastic test off the blues
Plenty of trees, but you will have no trouble finding your ball and playing out, which is fair.
Hotel probably a bit expensive for beers and food (5*), but get a cab to Alvor (5mins) just up the road. Alternatives are Potimao (10mins) or get a cab the other direction and go to Lagos (15mins). Alvor suited us better, many restaurants bars etc and €8 cab
Holes that stood out for me are 2,5 12 and 13
Take plenty of water, can get hot as you are shaded between the trees..
nice photos Kevin, wants me to get a flight today:D
Course record jointly held by Paul Broadhurst and Robert Karlson i think (open to correction) 64
Trust me if you have 36 points here you have played well.

One more question would you bring balls or is it easier(cheaper) to buy them there?

If you have the space in your baggage I'd bring the balls with me. They will be pricey to buy out there..

Not to this particular course, but I've been to Portugal the last 4 years for golf.

Golf balls are NOT cheap to buy on courses in Portugal
If you are bringing your own clubs, bring balls:)

Dont mean to hijack thread but a quick question Benny. Where have you found cheapest to get green fees for courses near Villamoura?

Anybody else know if Benny doesn't?

Green fee's are generally the same ,

It depends what month you are going, what time you are playing at etc ? and what offers they have

There is a good deals if you are getting accomdation as well, you can get unlimited golf over 3 days in Oceania courses

On average in April, Oceania course would be 80- 100 euro... the better Oceania ones , victoria - old course would be more ..

Unfortunately golf in villamoura is not cheap. I have found the best value to be had is to book one of the packages on the oceanico website.

would be nuts to buy balls in a pro-shop surely?
unless you are looking for excuses to significantly support the local portugese economy
i'd just buy some on-line and have them delivered to your hotel
    easy peasy
