Changing tyre ratio?

I'm planning to replace the elderly tyres on my Celica VVTi.
Based on reviews I've settled on Uniroyal RainSport 3s.

Camskill never seem to have the matching size (205/50R16 87V) in stock, so I was thinking of going for the 205/55R16 91V version. They also happen to be 100€ cheaper a set.

I'm know that with this change there'll be a 3.4% increase in actual speed over the speedo display.

My main question is will this change in tyre ratio impact the handling in any way?
Also, will the increased load rating make a difference of any sort?

Tyre will be higher profile, so IMO it will impact handling, especially during fast cornering.

    I don't think so.

They have them in your size here for €107 a corner:

Have you priced them locally also?

58.03€ a corner for the 55 version on Camskill or 81.96€ for the 50.
Haven't seen these tyres on the website of any Irish tyre centre.

What sort of impact will the larger tyres have on handling?
    Slower turn in?

Ride on bad roads will be more comfortable, less chance of rim damage.
Slightly increased sidewall flex in hard cornering.
I did the same thing, went from 60 to 65 profile and it made a big difference on bad roads(most of Ireland)

the difference between the 205/50 and the 205/55 is 10mm in the sidewall. a little more than negligible but hardly enough to make a dramatic/ noticeable difference in handling imo.

I'm getting some Rainsport 3 205/50 16's fitted tomorrow at Discount Tyres in Blanchardstown. It took a while for them to get them in that size for some reason too though.

    How much is it costing?
Emailed them for a quote last night.

Good question .. it actually took a good few weeks for them to get them in (which makes me think there is indeed something odd about that particular size as you say) so I've actually forgotten how much I agreed with them when I ordered them :)

Best to give them a call, Keith is the man to talk to.

I changed from a 205/50 to 195/55 And it made a massive difference for comfort levels

In the sense that it was much more comfortable?

Just back from Blanch ... €111 a corner inclusive fitting for 205/50 16 87V's. Came back to Bray over the Military Road with the top down, much better tyres than the Triangle's that were on it before :D

Went with Discount Tyres and the 205/55s.
