Best thing about this time of the year, if we can match the drama of last year I'm happy.

Of course the build up is all gonna be about will/wont Tiger make it.

I think it has to be the best major of the year even though I love The Open :D

Poults all the way this year, I can feel it in my water ;)

This is what the Masters is all about for me!

Can't wait for this. Seems to be a lot less build up this year, or is that just me (with my saorview box)?

Thanks OP, must remember to 'book' the TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,460 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

I cant flipping wait. Nothing beats those 4 days not even Ryder Cup beats it.

well done - ok besides me messing.

How do we keep the headbangers out.
GreeBo is back to himself there, so that will help.

I just love The Master. Remember sitting in my house when we had 2 tvs for the first time and Myles Dungan would be covering it on RTE - It must have been late 80s.

Then none of us will ever forget this. "In your life".

Now we know from the other thread " that the place is only a hilly kip and not much of a course at all " :D

I can see me watching the course with a bit less respect :) and expect the lads to be -10 or more. They seem to have made the course a bit more playable. I guess it will depend on how fast the greens are set up.

    So from Today's Golfer
Who do you think will Win ?

    Rory 26 %
    Stension 14%
    All Day 13 %
    Woods 10 %
    Mickelson 6 %
    Rose 5 %
    Scott 3 %

Seems your only as good as your last collapse.
Hard to see past Day and Rory.

Was really looking forward to a Tiger Rory battle - but that doesn't look like it is on the cards at all.

Undoubtedly there will be a surprise performance - maybe even Garcia can do something, Bubba might come back into it, a Bradley. And of the course the obligatory old lad in the mx on day 1 and 2.

So - green jacket at dry cleaners - a couple of outstanding Reds in the cellar.
    Kangaroo ready for champion's dinner.

God, Scott - is one good looking bloke :P

1996 was the first one I remember watching on TV. I was off school the next day, but I will always remember Norman's collapse and Faldo's Super Sunday.

Then 1997 and some guy called Tiger blew the field away.

Then came the "Tiger Proof" course. Remember that? Good times.

Kevin and Craig Stadler? Will that be the first time a father and son will play at the Masters in the same year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭Dbu

Zach, Dustin or Rose (easier the 2nd time)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,510 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Safa for me, Louis or Charl

My favourite golf tournament. I just love watching The Masters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,185 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    Rikand. Class.

That is obviously really - the official theme tune. I know a bit more about The Masters now - but before I was thinking that is just the music they play.

But no - only The Masters would have a theme tune.

Tiger will be happy at least! :D I thought they would have transplanted a mature tree in it's place? I guess it hasn't been done.

Any word on Jason Day's thumb injury? He will be up there on the leaderboard come Sunday evening if injury free. Along with Rory.

    That is correct.

The gas thing about Tiger's chip-in in '05 was that it's generally remembered as winning him the tournament but he actually bogeyed the next two holes to allow DiMarco into the play-off.

10/1 that someone will break the rules ;)

Can't wait for first pictures up Magnolia drive and the shots of the stunning azaleas behind the 12th.

Actually, if there was one hole on the course which one would you play? For me, if I was guaranteed a good drive it would the 18th. I'd nearly roll the ball into the bunker and try a Sandy special.

    @laoire

I'd love to play the par 3's

I'm very excited about this years event. I just hope Rory can get himself in the mix for the Sunday.

I think Rory is going to win this well. 2 or 3 shots.

Only thing that I'm unsure - will Day stay all the way.

I hope your right. We know he can blow the field away on this course so let's hope he can keep his head going into the Sunday if he is up there.

You just know that come the 10th on Sunday, if he's in contention, they're gonna show his previous meltdown. It would be soo nice to see him hit a screaming draw down the middle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,036 ✭✭✭Loire

It's funny that one of the console game makers haven't come up with a live play along for the masters....they're gonna show every shot from woods anyway so why not hit your own shot at the same time with a Wii or something...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Mr. Larson

I think it's time Matt Kuchar won. Also, although I'm usually old school when it comes to... Well everything really, I have to say I've become a fan of Sky Sports Masters coverage these last few years. Georgia... On my mind...

Probably my favourite Masters memory, bittersweet really because as a young teen watching it they were probably my 2 idols in golf, along with Seve, and to see one throw it away was heartbreaking, and yet to see the other win it with tears in his eyes when most thought he didn't have another major in him, was special. Amazing moment as they embraced each other on the last green, nobody remembers Phil finished 3rd:pac:

Favourite masters memories for me... first of all, there's not an event anything like it. It's without doubt my favourite weekend of the year. I've watched every Masters from about 1987, remember that outrageous chip in from Larry Mize, then in 88 it was Woosnam and 89 was Sandy Lyle (or maybe the other way around?). Seemed the Brits just owned the tournament back then. Part of the attraction was staying up late on the Sunday night with my dad absolutely engrossed by the beauty of the course and the brilliance of the golf.

Being honest though the moment of them all for me was the absolutely outrageous chip in on 16 from Tiger in 05 or 06?

I promise myself that I will be there for the tournament once before I die! No tournament comes close. Can't wait!

My favourite tournament, except perhaps for the Ryder cup. Even organised to be back from holidays for it! This is one of my main reasons for hanging on to Sky Sports. Bring it on!

That was brilliant alright but didn't he miss the putt? Open to correction on that. Had money on Westwood that year so it was probably the only time I didn't want Phil to win!

Only been playing and watching Golf less then 2 years but like everyone else on here i'm hooked . Really looking to this , plan on not moving from the sofa for 4 nights and am debating taking Monday off work so I could enjoy the Sunday evening with a few beers .

Would love to see Rory do it or Phil because I think he is a great role model for the sport , he seems to play the game with a smile on his face which is not always easy to do .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,536 ✭✭✭Dolph Starbeam

Michelson after withdrawing from the Valero Texas Open during the 3rd round, pulled or tweaked some muscle. Sounds like he should be ok for the Masters but not sure he'll be 100%.

Ok - I think Rory needs to be 2 or 3 shots up going into last day.
He will win it from there.

    All guess work. But.

Just looking on paddy power there and they have odds on Harrington for this.

He isn't in it? Or is he?
    I'm confused.

If zach Johnson gets the putter going he could be a real threat. Former winner and he's striking the ball really well in Texas this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭denishurley

Possible winners- Jamie Donaldson and id love Miguel angle Jimenez to win

I don't know why, but I'd be surprised if Donaldson ever won a major

    Jimenez - not a chance.

Donaldson could surprise - but must be his first time there ?

    Edit :

NO was cut last year when playing well in all other majors.

There has been much bigger surprises. Quality player and definitely capable of winning a major imo.
