I'm kinda surprised this Riskyair piece has'nt received more attention today....http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/ryanairs-oleary-eyes-1bn-in-bond-issue-to-fund-order-for-175-planes-30133539.html

Its very clear that being Boards.ie's most hated Irish company does have it's advantages too....:)

How,I wonder, has the Airline that nobody uses,or in fact, actively avoids, managed to carry enough passengers on its few oul Aeroplanes to pull the wool over S&P's beady eyes.....
Last week, Ryanair received its first-ever corporate credit rating, from Standard & Poor's. It rated the airline BBB+, making it the highest-rated airline in the world.

How did Micka manage to accumulate this pot....
He pointed out that Ryanair had close to €3bn in cash on its books and that the carrier "could buy the planes" for cash if it wished.
    ....a big win at Cheltenham...?

I wonder if the onward quest for "nicety" is going to put pressure on the Ryanair bottom-line ?

Perhaps M O'L would agree to a Job-Swap with Martin Dunne over at the Ambulance Service...? ;)

Riskyair? The article in the link is about Ryanair.

I think the thread title is misleading.

Ryanair is not unpopular - it's just considered popular to complain about them. If it were that popular then nobody would bother flying with them.

Also, when Ryanair receives attention, this is usually negative publicity but this usually says nothing about what ordinary people think.

Ordinary people will continue to fly as most people don't care about them, they just want the cheap seats and the ability to get from A to B in a timely fashion.

Those who don't read the rules get shafted and rightly so.

80 million passengers. Guess some of them might like it.

I like Ryanair, fly with them regularly. If you stick to their rules they are fantastic. It is usually the people who get caught for boarding passes or baggage restrictions that complain. The only little annoyances that Ryanair have is the selling of lottery tickets and junk on their flights. Also, that stupid song they play upon landing.

Apart from those very menial things, I've never had a problem with them. Get me to my destination and home again quickly and hassle free.

Highest rated airline in the world financially, €3bn in cash in the bank, excellent punctuality and lost bag statistics, 30 year unblemished safety record. RiskyAir?

I think that the point is fairly obvious - Ryanair has received the highest corporate credit rating of any airline as per that article.

This despite allegedly being the airline that people (or more accurately the press) liked to hate.

I think Alek was just highlighting the irony of that situation.

Nah, your diffo not the only one.

They have one of the newest fleets in the world, a perfect safety record, cheap flights and have opened up flying to the masses. I booked Bristol to Dublin during the week for £19.99, I had the choice of an early morning, afternoon or evening flight and all three flights will have heavy loadings so other people must like them too.Best of all this giant company that carries 80million+ passengers hails from Ireland!!

Highlighting,Irony...themz the wordz I wuz searching for Lxflyer, thank you ;)

    As Strumms posted earlier...
    "What an odd thread"
....and it is indeed an "Odd" situation when our most noteworthy responses to a HUGE,long running Irish Aviation Business success story is to either ignore it or comprehensively diss those who find it's business model works...and works well.

When compared with that other great "Irish" institution,Guinness,I'd suggest Ryanair should now be considered a far more suitable "Irish National Symbol" than a relatively small subsidiary of Diageo plc..?

Ryanair currently dominates the Aviation Business world, from a Corporate HQ in Collinstown Co Dublin,so,is it worth while asking when and if,for example, Aer Lingus might mount a challenge on that crown ? ;)....just to Keep it in the Country like.....:)

Ryanair in successful airline shocker ? Sir, I don't think this will come as news to many of us here who are in tune with the world of aviation. Still don't get the RiskyAir reference... 'Sarcasm or not'.

As regards an Irish national symbol ? I guess it's the public that decide that really. Guinness as a product is a national symbol, the company however is not. People don't really care how Diageo are trading.. They just like Guinness I guess.

Because something is successful like Ryanair doesn't mean they should be above being critiqued. Although they have been super successful many consumers have found issues with certain aspects of their service or lack there of compared to other airlines. Actually as a result of public opinion Ryanair changed some aspects of their practices regarding how they operate and their customer service and image. MOL admitted there was room for improvement.

Ryanair are a great success and I tip my hat to them. As a consumer I have little doubt that the airline industry is better off for them being around. As a consumer right now I don't think they are the best airline in Europe in terms of the quality of their product, they are not even the best airline in Ireland in fact but they attract business and have been a success so well done. However I travel a lot for work and pleasure... When I sit down to book a flight I'm not thinking about MOL and his balance sheet... Give me the best value, service and product for my money you won't get that on FR but good luck to them..
