access profile on laptop

First off I'm like a dinosaur with computer tech so please try and be patient!

I have an asus laptop which has a user profile set up requiring a password to access. No problems until a couple of days ago when I enter the password I get a message that I can't log onto the user profile. Have no idea what caused this or is there an easy way out of the problem.

    All help appreciated!

By the way while the laptop has been fine for the most part - the sensitivity of the mouse pad drives me insane. I find if I'm typing up something, its constantly being inadvertently deleted or the cursor is constantly re-locating itself in the document. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of the pad? I wouldn't mind but there is a sticker beside it championing the fact that the design ensures no accidental inputs occur!!
