I recently put this oil in my 08 2L passat. Has anyone ever used it? What is the quality like. Mechanic reckoned quality might not be great and not to go over 10,000km before changing it again.

Is that the right spec for the car? Thought it should be 5W30, but that does have some VW approval spec listed.

If it's not the right spec for the car, a Passat will burn through anything that isn't right in no time at all.

That is the wrong oil dude it must be VW 507 spec you will have to drain that immediately or face DPF trouble.

I'm not well versed on VW oil specs but based on the MB classificaiton 229.1 I would be very slow putting this in anything made since 1990's.

Completely wrong spec, should be 5w30 and at least 505, 505.01 or 507 spec if you have a DPF. Drain it asap and put the proper stuff in there

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm a little worried now. You say it should at least be 505 spec but as you can see from the link above this oil is VW approved for 505 00 spec? So you still think I should drain it ASAP??

Is your Passat diesel or petrol? I have no experience with VW, but if it's diesel and you put in the 10W40 oil, it's very likely it's the wrong spec as you'd probably need 5W30.

Word of advice, it is a good idea to never go over 10.000 km with any oil, regardless of what utter sh1te the manufacturers come up with as a "service interval"...

I told you it should be 507 spec 505 isnt worth a ****e for your car. You can buy the proper oil of a VW dealership fairly cheap too.

I've used Total oil brand for last 50K miles from Mick's garage without issues. Used to use Castrol Edge line of oils, but they are expensive.

Particular oil I'd recommend covers 504/507.5 inclusive, your owners manual will state exact spec of oil, but its likely to be cover by the oil in the link.

Total Quartz INEO 504/507.5 5W/30 oil from Micks garage

Like others have said, no matter how good the oil is, it'll have contaminates from engine combustion/wear & tear, so better to change often.

Personally I change the oil in my diesel engine at 7-8K miles, and imagine that manufactures use long service intervals as a selling point/fleet management, but don't much care about long term effects of long service intervals and associated engine wear.

The VAG group developed their oil specification specifically to solve engineer problems such as injector cam lobe wear, which wasn't an issue on older generations of engines, which had mechanical diesel pumps.

If it's diesel you should be using 5w30 and i would still recommend going with 507 VW oil.

In that case drain that 10w40 crap out and put proper 5w30 507 VW oil in. You can get 5l for about €40 from most decent motor factors or €37 delivered from micksgarage.
