Hoping to change up from my 2010 Focus 1.6TDCi to a 2012/2013 car (likely a 2012 with budget)

Not sure which car/model to go for.

The car is used for a 50 mile commute (25 each way), 5 days per week, with a lot of this journey on 100km/h roads in top gear. Outside of this, the car isn't used much, as an MPV is used to get kids about and short runs to school/shops etc. So something with good economy would be good.

3 kids are all under 5, but they are not often in this car, so it doesn't have to be big. Medium sized family car would suffice, as one already in a booster.

So I was thinking along the likes of a new shape Focus, VW Golf, Mazda3, Seat Leon, Skoda Rapid, Toyota Auris etc. Not sure if I need to go to slightly bigger cars like a Passat, Octavia, V50 etc (I would be dropping back in years though for one of these).

Plus I have considered the new range of small petrol engines like you get in the Focus, Golf, Rapid etc. Might have less bother than a diesel but also less mpg I'm sure.

Budget would be up around €17000. So what would you go for?
