Vodafone broadband dropping out

    Hi all,
For the last 3 weeks broadband has been dropping out quite a bit,Netflix wont load and on-line gaming impossible. So i contacted Vodafone to log the fault.
They said there was a problem on the line,so sent out Eircom engineer. He said the problem was my monitored alarm which we have had for 5 years without any issue and wanted to charge me 100 euro to install a DSL splitter.
I wasnt convinced, so contacted Vodafone Tech support who instructed me to unplug all phones and the alarm, then they tested the line and found no problem.

Money is tight so i got an electrician friend to do it for me.
He followed the advice given here, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1872098
Phones are fine, alarm is fine but the problem is as bad as ever.I expected the fact that the router is taken before the alarm should rule out the alarm as the cause.

Anyone got any ideas where the issue may lie?

If the DSL filter was done correctly and the broadband is still unstable its not noise from the alarm, the alarm has FAILED. Its either causing a pretty bad short or earthing onto its case, either can cause big sync problems.

Replace the alarm or just take it off the line completely. Once the bell unit is on the front of the house how is a would be burglar to know its not monitored? Most of the protection is the appearance of being monitored.
