What do blood tests actually look for?

If you got a 'full panel' of blood tests done with your GP, what exactly are they checking in that? I know a few of the things (iron, cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid function), but I'm interested in what else they can check.

Well there are a whole range of blood tests. They can test for pretty much anything (liver functions, kidney functions, haemoglobin levels, platelet counts) it's pretty much endless. Just depends on what your GP is looking for.
