I received an original xbox in the post and set it up today. there seems to be no physical switch on it but its running evolution x. havent opened it yet as i want to wait for the replacement case ive ordered to arrive (and im in hospital, ha ha) and do it all at once but how do you tell without opening what size the internal hdd is. i know they were originally either 10gb or 20gb. also if i simply ghost the original hdd to a larger capacity drive if i decide this is the way to go will it work. and is there a list of specific hard drives that will work with it or will any do as i have a few older ones knocking around at home.

For the original xbox the drive has to be lockable if it is only softmodded and you can't simply ghost them you could put chimp on the harddrive thats in it then connect the other harddrive to the dvd drive ide and use the chimp program to clone it or else ftp in and get a backup of your eprom and use xboxhdm to make a new drive on a pc but you need one with ide portsand theres a few other files you'll need cant think what they are off the top of my head something to do with your e partition.If you get the hexen disc i reccomended to you on another post and boot it it will tell you everything you need to know about xbox version harddrive size and other stuff.I would recomend using it to tsop the xbox if you can, that way you can use any harddrive in it(dosen't have to be lockable or a certain type) and the disc has tools on it for setting up the harddrive for you all on the xbox no need for pc and its alot harder to mess up the xbox if it's tsoped. Its very easy to mess up a softmod if you delete or move something your not meant to. If its already tsoped or hardmodded you will just need to connect the new harddrive to the xbox in place of the harddrive in it boot the hexen disc go to the relevant section and that will build the drive for you. And if your going to be using it on an lcd you can use the disc to change it to ntsc for the 720p or 1080i resolutions.

I completely misunderstood your last response. I taught I only had to do all that if it was softmodded. Been told by seller it's chipped. Will get in the hexen disc. Excuse my ignorance but what's chimp. I'm using a gui application we use in research and development for hdd. It'll basically copy everything right off the original and make other programs/hardware believe it's the same thing. Have a few old ide slot in caddies that you just pop the drives in and it'll copy/ghost everything between drives. I'm asking re drive because it's either replace existing drive or simply add another. There's a company that make an extended case which had the space to have two more drives in the machine as well as original. If it's just the extended case it'll be just a matter of using something like guiformatt the fat 32 the drives I think bit I also like the idea of normal size case thats crystal clear with leds mods etc. and larger hdd.

chimp is a program for the xbox that you use on the xbox for cloning and making harddrives.You would only have the 2 drives connected while using the tool to copy thes stuff from 1 drive to the other when finished you'd take 1 out. As its already hardmodded just put in new drive hexen disc and build the drive real easy to do. original xbox drives are in fatx format

really? very handy. i had to fat32 for xbox 360. your a fountain of knowledge. thanks very much for your help. im useless if it isnt nintendo related i may as well be a goose looking into a bucket, ha ha. will try get hexen and chimp later.

you wont need chimp as your alreadeay hardmodded the hexen will do it all for you

both are full cases just the xcm case comes in bits i think. i got the clear case and fan from other seller.

p.s. i have the xcm xbox 360 case mod and ps3 case mod and couldnt recommend them enough. both are brilliant and very good for 5 dollars worldwide shipping.

Sorry for being stupid - but which link did you buy the xbox shell from? and which link did you buy the xbox 360 and ps3 shell from? Were they easy fit? I have never opened my ps3 or 360 whereas I have completely torn down and rebuilt my xbox original.

im the complete opposite. wouldnt know where to start with original xbox. i bought the xcm replacements for the xbox 360 and ps3

Hi - I am very interested in getting a new shell for my ps3 - my cech number is CECH-3003B - will any of the three cases on the xcm site you linked above work? They don't seem to say and how long did your ps3 shell take to arrive?
