Skate Ramp Back Garden

    Hi

My friends and I are going to build a ramp for skateboarding in my backyard.

I'm worried about being sued if someone injures themselves, will a disclaimer signed by anyone who uses the ramp prevent them from suing me.

We are splitting the costs between 3 of us if that makes any difference to the situation (So my friends will own part of the ramp)

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ring your home insurance company and found out are you covered if someone injures themselves on the property.

If they are under 18 they cannot sign away any liability. If they are over 18, skateboarding!, Get a life

This is amongst the most ironic combinations of posts and posters that I have ever seen.

I'm sure your neighbours will be thrilled by the racket! IIRC skateboarding is an extremely noisy activity.

You're going to add them to the deeds of your house - or how will this part ownership work?

You cannot contract out of liability for personal injury due to negligence. Most household insurance policies have a personal liability section. It would be wise to ensure that the activity contemplated would be covered.

So if people sign a disclaimer before they use the ramp, will that prevent them suing me if they hurt themselves?

    1. Check re plannning consent

    2. Check title. If in an estate there may be covenants re use

    3. As already mentioned, noisy activity. talk to neighbours

Even if you stuck up a hundred signs saying "use at own risk" and got people to sign forms all you need is one or 2 people falling and making a claim using a no win no fee solicitor and you'd be pretty screwed unless your loaded. You'd have to hire your own solicitor to defend an action and you'd need (I'd imagine) 10's of thousands to defend an action.
