Listen, yon boy can win all the World Indoor medals he wants, not one of them will be worth the same as a county club championship medal in a real sport! :pac:

Nice to see Brian Lynch from North East Runners getting a mention though!

Ah lads, that chip on the shoulder is weighing you down.

Athletics is a minority sport, masters indoors athletics is a small niche in this minority sport.

I applaud the fact that it got a mention in the IT at all.

    :)

The article itself is great, but it would be nice if it was illustrated by athletes today rather than someone playing football 20 years ago. It's like the desperation to tie everything in to BOD, or print any story that can be illustrated by a woman in a bikini

Tongue very much in cheek from me anyway, sarcasm doesn't come across well in written text.

I know, I know just there is already one thread too many about the GAA on this athletics forum and none about the World Masters Athletics Indoors Champs.

    It's illustrating this story

Athletics?.... yeah, yeah yeah, but did any of them ever fall over a bogball?

    (as requested by pconn062)

Fine footballer in his day. Current 60m indoor champion for the over 50's. Manages Armagh club side Killeavy.

Only way Ian will get anyone to read one of his articles is by putting a photo of a well known footballer on it.

Name calling is fairly pathetic. Bogball? Did you go around the school yard in your day calling lads big ears and 4 eyes? Grow up

Nothing wrong with the picture. More people will read the article because of it and hence promote running more.

If my memory is right, the same author mentioned the GAA in an article two or three weeks ago too so I hope no one was upset by that.

What does it matter what photo is used in the article, it was probably picked by the picture editor and used the first photo they found when they did a search.

I've read most of the 3 threads about money going to develop the GAA in London and the rant by Kiernan that I found on here. The GAA know how to lobby the pants off most bodies in the country and that isn't their fault while on the other hand athletics has Kiernan, who media outlets will ring as he gives great rants and makes good copy.

Most people only know him from looking at sports on telly, throwing his toys out of the pram at the drop of the hat and giving a terrible impression that all people involved in athletics are jealous of other bodies and half cracked. Someone from the AAI should ask him never to comment on a story if he really cares about funding for athletics in Ireland.

Athletics clubs and officials do loads of good work that most people never think of but any goodwill that athletics has made is gone in one foul swoop with a childish rant like that.

Jerry comes from a one sport county and that was not his sport. He is bitter about that. FFS he is still bitter about John Tracy taking his water bottle in 1984. But it was this single minded never give up on something is why he was a good runner, why Roy Keane a good footballer etc.

For anyone interested in the World Masters Indoor Championships, results are available here:
    http://budapest2014.hu/index.php/en/results/
I can not find a list of the full Irish team or who has won what so far, though I know there have been medals.

The boys on Jumping the Gun are featuring a blog by James Thie who is doing the 1500, 3000 & 800 O35.
    http://jumpingthegun.ie/blog/2014/3/27/thies-world-masters-tales-race-day-and-still-on-track
He is in the 3000 final against Ciaran Doherty later today.

In the M50 60m Michael Linden ran 7.88 in his semi with 7.75 needed to go through.

Personally I will be watching out for the 1500m & 800m. 800m semi-finals were held yesterday where a 2:08 was needed to make the M45 final. The M60 final should also be interesting with O60 World Record Holder Joe Gough from Waterford up against former record holder Nolan Shaheed of US.
