As if parents these days weren't fearful enough of letting their kids out, now they have to be wary of playgrounds too?

Some sick bastard came up with this idea. Thank god the kid was on the dad's shoulders, if he'd been pulling his entire weight with his hands, the injury would have been much worse.

Here's hoping the lil fella can get past this incident sooner than later and that he won't be afraid of everything now... :(

TL;DR some twisted individual places razor blades all over playground designed to injure children. Toddler cut.

So this happened in one playground thousands of miles away in a different country.

How many playgrounds are there worldwide? Thousands. This unfortunate incident happened at one playground out of thousands.

Your post is crying for mass hysteria and outrage and is the real problem.

You can say that about anything though, "so a murder happened in a bar?" In another country?! How many bars are there worldwide? This incident happened at one bar.

Doesn't mean it's not newsworthy! You can condemn things without calling for the pitchforks yano ;)

    Did they get fingerprints?

I think so, it says this anyway:
While his parents are shuddering at the “what if”s” and “whys,” police are trying to find out “who” and are taking fingerprints of evidence found at the park to pursue possible leads.

It's a really bizarre thing to do, what kind of motive/mental state would someone have to do this?

It happened on another continent though! Do we all have to start worrying about malaria and shark attacks here now too?
I want to worry about real **** okay, like whether I'll have two meats or one meat on my sandwich for lunch, or if I fed my fish last night or not, y'know, or will I go for a few pints tomorrow. :)

Stupid comparison. They are not realistic threats in Ireland, while razors in playgrounds could actually happen.

To be fair to the o.p, they were only commenting on an unusual news story, I have never heard of an incident like this before, its hardly mass hysteria. Tough crowd.

What about car jackings so? There was presumably one or two or fifty in South Africa yesterday. Should we now worry about them too???

    Point stands.

My own view on this is if you want to keep stuff like this out of your local playground, don't spread the news and with it the idea for local little bolloxes.

This article has been mentioned in dozens of news articles already. I don't think mentioning it here is going to result in a spate of copycat attacks or at least I hope not.
As for comparing it to car-jacking, car-jacking is pretty common worldwide.
In this instance the person deliberately set out to injure and maim small kids and toddlers which is not an everyday event in most countries.

I didn't mean here specifically, I meant generally across Irish media. There are some fcuked up people out there who just need an idea. Although someone like this would likely find their ideas regardless.

Like the others who said it above, stop peddling mass hysteria and think logically.

Our local playground was used as a toilet by some lowlifes who shat all over the slides, swings etc. Would this be classed as pooby trapped?

Maybe they just wanted to keep pigeons from ****ting on the monkey bars.:D

So no boobs then? Thread title disappoints.

OP a more rational example of something to be wary of in playgrounds in Ireland wouldn't be razor blades but actually drug paraphernalia such as syringes and needles strewn about the place. There was even a thread on here before from someone who was surprised to find a discarded condom in a car park. They really shouldn't be.

This is the problem with the Internet and media blowing single incidents out of proportion, it's crying wolf, like people after a while can't take the man in the white van stories on Facebook seriously any more.

I'm sure some with an agenda to push are busy trying to pin it on Iranians or Putin, just like the missing airliner.

In all fairness it's still an awful thing to do in a children's play ground no matter where it happened & you could say it's nearly as bad as the lager louts who smash glass bottles in play grounds which happens here

Syringes are actually a real threat here we don't need to add a possible danger.
