NCT Checks

    Hi
I've just checked the NCT video at http://www.ncts.ie/video2.html as I wanted to check for what tests they carry out.
I specifically wanted to see if they test electric windows & boot locking mechanism, both of which my 04 Megane has some issues with, i.e. boot will not open from outside nor will 1 driver side rear window open. The video doesn't stipulate these tests but I'd like to be sure before I go for NCT. It really doesn't bother me about window or boot. I will prob only have the car for another year so why spend money unnecessarily.

Does anyone know if I need to get boot and window fixed for NCT?
    Thanks

Here is a copy of the NCT manual which states exactly what is tested and what is classified as a fail: http://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf

Thanks I checked the Electrical System section on page 78 of manual and it doesn't state anything about checking windows (electrical).

Just spotted (pg 56 - Bodywork) "Check that the bonnet and boot lid catches are operating properly. In the case of front opening bonnets, ensure that the safety catch is fitted and operating properly." So I'll obviously have to get that fixed- damn!

The drivers window is the only window tested, so once that works you're fine.

When you say the boot doesn't work from outside, is there an internal release for it? And the boot closes fine afterwards? In that case there's no problem. You can wait by your car and mention it to the tester that the external release isn't working, there will be no problem once the boot is openable somehow and closes fine.

    Thanks
Yes you can open boot from inside in an not very elegant manner of climbing into boot from back seats and flicking switch with screwdriver. If they're ok with that then I'm ok!

They're probably not OK with that :pac:

They have to open the boot just to check there's no rust or damage and a quick visual of the spare, so you might get away with just leaving the boot open for the tester and explaining the situation. The boot isn't required to open in itself, they just need to see inside and make sure it closes.

No they wont be climbing into the boot with a screwdriver at all:pac: You will have to fix the boot for sure.

Yes well there's no problem with the closing mechanism. The issue is that using the latch on exterior is not working. I'd imagine, naively, that this probably wouldn't cost too much to fix??

You could probably pick up a new switch in a scrap yard for a tenner. It's only held in with a couple of screws.

I looked at doing this before but it looked like a little beast to get out!!
