That's about right. We my parents had a filling station we were making 4-6p gross (note pence) per litre of fuel. That was when petrol was about 55p per litre and Diesel was around the 50p mark. So that was about 8-10% gross. Feck all.

The biggest markup i.e. excise duty and VAT, goes to Revenue.

So little margin that a couple of drive offs in a week could mean the station operates at a loss.

There is only 1 major benefactor of fuel sales in Ireland. The Dept. of Finance.

Any of the regular posters that have industry experience would say that there's feck all in petrol. I think it was Hammertime who said it the most. Don't know if he's still around though.

that list is updated again today.

might be a handy bookmark , for figuring out which way fuel prices are going, since pumps.ie no longer give forecasts /

Remembering talking to a friend who worked for a major retailer in Ireland. Basically any money they made was everything else in the shop especially Deli and car washes.

There's an ad for something or other on the telly where some lady who inherited a service station complaining that they sell more sausage rolls and chocolate than petrol.

I always imagine Hammertime pulling his hair out if he heard that one. :D
