How safe is your bike at races?

Was talking to a few people and reading a few threads online here and it seems thefts of bikes is becoming the norm. Road racing is getting more coverage in the public eye and thieves are aware of the value of bikes. There was even a blog written about bikes in DIT not so long ago and one post called the 700euro noodle lock possibly was the reason why the bike was stolen.

Was just talking to a mate there who said about 15 lovely shiny new bikes were placed up against the wall at the Lucan GP recently with nobody minding them. Maybe its time people learned from the mistakes of others and assigned a minder for their bike while they sign on or else bring the bike in with them, myself included as I often left my bike unattended while racing last year. Post race is the same if taking a shower. Bikes being nicked off roof racks now. It's only going to get worse.

I reckon it'd be a brave man who tries to rob a bike at a race, or at a coffee shop. The pack would take pleasure in reeling the thief in and knocking nine shades of red out of him.

and assuming the pack know who owns every single bike and can easily spot a thief calmly taking a bike and strolling off with it...
