I was stopped today by a member of traffic corps on the N11.

I am not going to go through the exact details or justify the circumstance as the bottom line is I was wrong, I was doing 90 kph in an 80 zone.

The guard gave me a lengthy dress down. Explained to me the two wrong things I was doing (speed and undertaking). I accepted it and acknowledged he was right.

He walked over to the front of my car to check discs (which were in order).

Then he came to me and told me to "You can go now, drive safely".

He didn't ask for my driving license at any point.

The question is: should I expect a fine, penalty point or summons in the post!? Or was he just cautioning me and letting me go? I presume considering that he didn't ask for my name he was letting me go? (I was driving my wife's car so he can't surely just go by reg no, can he?).

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks!

If he didn't ask you for your name and address, it's very unlikely that you'll hear any more about it. If he intended to prosecute you he would have asked for your name & address.

Sometimes this is true of Gardai, that if they are calmly taking details, you are screwed, but if they are bitching at you, maybe that's all that's coming your way.

At a guess, I would imagine that he would have asked for your driver's licence if he was going send you a fixed charge notice.

This is just my experience as a motorist.

    Hope for the best.

Can we understand what happened here - OP was driving his wife's car and was pulled over so if the Garda felt he had detected an offence, he had three choices: (1) send a fixed charge notice to the registered owner of the car - highly unlikely given that he interviewed the driver on the spot (2) ask the driver for his name and address and send it to him or (3) caution the driver (in the OP's words: 'The guard gave me a lengthy dress down') and send him on his way with a flea in his ear but without asking for his name and address.

So unless I'm missing something obvious, it's clear that the OP got off with a caution and will hear no more about it.

I may not be as optimistic as you, but I agree with the overall reasoning.

yes would agree he got the riot act read to him and as he was not asked for name and address got of with a warning, when he sees you next time you wont be so lucky.
